One thing I don’t understand is how they manage to make such a close fake but screw up some simple details. Surely they’re working off high quality reference images.

Pretty sure it’s a deliberate action. It could be taken pretty badly by other countries if you falsify their currency. But make something which looks similar while obviously not being real, and you’re probably annoying but safe.
Yeah, why isn't canada putting any kind of pressure on China itself?
It's one thing to allow counterfeit airpods. its' something else when it's currency. Maybe this is part of the shift to cashless.
