the problem is he's made the military complicit already. they're already doing Duterte-esque extrajudicial killings of random Venezuelan people in the Caribbean. For anyone unaware, Duterte is currently imprisoned awaiting trial at the Hague for extrajudicial killings of suspected drug traffickers when he was president of the Philippines.
To sidestep the partisan side of this, I encourage everyone here to read about other regimes in the past century and how they came to power in order to build up your pattern matching ability.
But you camt sidestep partizan side. This is fully partizan.
It is not that conservative voters dont know where this goes, it is that they like where it goes and want to get there. You and I perceive the regime you allude to as bad, they dont, wink wink, actually.

Remember when that Civil War movie came out and everyone said its lightly sketched out back story didn't make any sense?
And now in reality we've got military deployed to "war torn" Portland due to Fox News reruns?

All military personnel take the oath to protect the USA, abide by the constitution. At all levels they are to resist illegal orders.
At the top levels, many are salivating at the prospect of generously paid roles in service of the military-industry complex. Standing by sworn principles is a career limiting move.

For whatever reason archive.is and archive.ph have both not worked for me, for a while now (3-4 months maybe). archive.li does: https://archive.li/Gpb1O
I have no idea why but as long as one of them is working I'm happy to not waste any more time looking into it.

I, for one, thought this was a hilarious one-liner in the context of this thread, and the idea of sacrificing or going complacent to a loss of your control to choose multiple options for your circumstances, as long as you have at least ONE option. It's the exact mindset that got us here.

Still works for me, there are other archive sites you can try, though.
disabling JavaScript also works for the Atlantic

This is such unserious “reporting” - typical biased, agenda-driven hysteria from The Atlantic. Sixty-day security operations with National Guard to protect Federal officers doing legal deportation operations is not an authoritarian takeover.
I’d like to see a little concern over the lawlessness and crime that’s occurring because certain big cities don’t enforce laws and fail to protect the citizens. Yes by all means protest, 1A rights all day, but attacking police and Federal officers is a crime. This must stop.
And regarding, “extrajudicial killings of random Venezuelan people” - How many ‘random’ people (and a few US citizens) did Obama drone with zero due process?

Typical “I try to seem like an intellectual but I’m actually a foolish, frightened conservative” post.
Crime is down. You have been manipulated.
