These types of statistics are wrong in a way the article does not mention, which is they never account for the positive benefits of driving that balance out the risks. Being able to get around quickly and have the freedom to explore the country the way only Americans really can, is great. It makes the economy better and it makes our lives better. And yes, it comes with some minor tradeoffs. So what? If you want perfect safety in life, you have to just stay inside.
This makes no sense. The vast majority of driving is not being done for pleasure.
The point of the article is that we do factor the economic/recreational benefit into the stats by putting mileage as the denominator.
