Ask HN: noticed how HN performs sentiment-analysis on everything posted here?
...and then punishes one for having any kind of negative sentiment?
I never realized how severely his is being done on this site and I don't know how I feel about it - such 1984 vibes and its just growing and getting more widespread due to AI, no doubt.
meh. nothing we the underclass can do about it I suppose.

No. Sorry.

The guidelines counsel us to avoid a number of counterproductive communications. Those might all fit under an umbrella of negative sentiment.

Yes, Hacker News is one of the most heavily tone-policed and aggressively moderated forums on the web. The aegis of this forum is "avoiding the Eternal September effect at all costs," and those costs may include your comfort and freedom of speech. You must be new here, welcome.
I am a new account of 10 days, and have commented several times to posts. I am a businessman of 26yrs that sorted my office problems but i dont understand why i cant progress past 1 karma point ??

1. Stop worrying about karma. It's not a measure of your worth as a person or something.
2. Be helpful. Answer questions people have. Share useful information that others didn't know to ask for.

I agree. More details.
@GP: After a quick look of your previous comments, a suggestion is to write longer comments. Avoid oneliners. Expand the comment with more details and helpful information, but not unnecessary crap like in an easy for school. This is not a hard rule, but you need a few months here to learn when you can break it.
If you can't write a long comment, most of the times it's better to not comment at all. Look for a thread about a topic where you are a specialist and answer a few of the questions. (No AI, write the answer yourself about a topic that topic that you know. Definitively not AI walls of text.)

Evidence?
its merely an implication and not a stated fact. OBVIOUSLY I don't have any proof.
There are certain persons who downvote at the slightest provocation or inclination.
It would be impossible to tell without running analysis queries as to who and what causes such behavior.
I should point out your comment is “frumpy” with a dash of “cringe”. Could it be that your comments are laced with a condescension which draws negative response?

Many times I upvote grey comments that are not offensive or extremely bad, even if I disagree.
perhaps :-(
I've been using HN for around 10 years, but in 2024 I really started to dislike it... Not for the people on it, but the people running it. Now to me it's like Google, plenty of people feel like they are stuck in it even though they utterly despise it.
