An ex-First Republic Bank cloud engineer was sentenced to two years in prison for causing more than $220,000 in damage to his former employer's computer network after allegedly using his company-issued laptop to watch pornography.
Miklos Daniel Brody, 38, of San Francisco, pleaded guilty in April to two charges of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act after obtaining information from and intentionally damaging a protected computer, and one charge of making false statements to a government agency.
In addition to spending two years behind bars, the judge ordered Brody to pay $529,266.37 in restitution and serve three years of supervised release after he's out of jail.
This unique book explores fungi as sensors, electronic devices, and potential future computers, offering eco-friendly alternatives to traditional electronics. Fungi are ancient, widely distributed organisms ranging from microscopic single cells to massive mycelium spanning hectares. They possess senses similar to humans, detecting light, chemicals, gases, gravity, and electric fields. It covers fungal electrical activity, sensors, electronics, computing prototypes, and fungal language.
Cisco has announced its largest acquisition by purchasing cybersecurity software company Splunk. The cash deal is worth approximately $28 billion, with each share being acquired for $157.
Cisco has been facing challenges with its networking equipment business in recent years due to supply chain issues and a slowdown in demand following the pandemic. To mitigate this, the company has struck a deal to reduce its dependence on this segment.
The new technique, inspired by nature, involves multiple drones working together to build from a single blueprint.
Inspired by the way bees or wasps construct large nests, the process has multiple drones work together to build from a single blueprint, with one essentially checking the others’ work as it goes.
A recent Google Search update is causing anger across the web. Some site owners say they are being pushed down in results with huge drops in traffic. Google recently tweaked its guidelines to permit AI-generated content.
Supposed I have the right kind of hardware, are there free and open-source tools out there that can be cook up together to do that for a DIY project and is it achievable?
"The crash dumps, which redact sensitive information, should not include the signing key. In this case, a race condition allowed the key to be present in the crash dump. The key material's presence in the crash dump was not detected by our systems."
The Windows maker said the crash dump was moved to a debugging environment on the internet-connected corporate network, from where Storm-0558 is suspected to have acquired the key after infiltrating the engineer's corporate account.
Researchers have developed a fascinating method for generating high-quality 3D scenes in real-time from 2D images. This technique, called Gaussian Splatting, leverages Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) and machine learning to synthesize complex scenes and views. Unlike traditional photogrammetry, NeRFs require less source material and can generate scenes much faster. The method strikes a balance between speed and quality, resulting in impressive results. This advancement in 3D scene generation has the potential to revolutionize various fields, and the research paper provides in-depth details for those interested.
