Definitely difficult, especially after being in the corporate world with steady income, bonuses and equity. Been there! However, the independence and extreme flexibility is quite worth it.

I run PMHero.co, and did my best to simplify the whole process for clients. It's one monthly fixed price, so no contracts, sales meetings or hour management. It's self serve, so quite easy to create an account and get started (we use Trello to manage all the requests). It has helped set me apart from competitors.

Marketing your business and finding your first few clients is always difficult, but once you get rolling, it usually runs smooth. I also tend to be a generalist, and quite curious, so I can cover a lot of territory, which makes me a one-stop shop for the most part.

Hit me up if you have any Qs I can help with.

Yes, it is, but it will be a long and painful one, as they are the biggest social network, by far. Developers and other platforms are slowly decoupling from Facebook (FB Login, Ads, etc) and it's impacting their business. As they lose users, and engagement, they will lose ad dollars. This will cause them to make short term decisions to make up for the loss, which may hurt them in the long run.

The saving grace is if they somehow deliver on their Metaverse promise. Zuck knew FB was dying before everyone else, hence the full on pivot. We'll see if they can reinvent themselves to become the leader in Web3, which could ultimately save the company. As it stands today, with war waging on multiple fronts, regulation, user sentiment, competition, emerging trends and so on, they are dying.
