People tie their income to Youtube because they think Youtube is fair. They certainly give the impression that it is (we only demonitize terrorist videos, etc.). But because Youtube is completely controlled by a messy algorithm, they don't live up to that impression at all. People find out when it's too late.
Sure, it means that there would be a set of rules for social platforms to connect with each other, or people to connect to each other. The implementation is open for debate, but the general gist of it is to allow competition by not excluding users that are on different platforms. Blockchain technology for example, is protocol heavy, and different software (wallets etc.) can be created for it without excluding users.
Please tell that to all the people that host websites with Google Fonts. Block those, and the entire website seizes to work. Seems a little ridiculous for using a nicer font.
It would buy a lot more if it wouldn't only be in the same setting, but I think pretty much all current day AR headsets are too dorky to wear on the subway anyway. But it would still help a lot with office work, being able to continue working and doing small chores is still a big pro that VR can't fulfill.
Personally, I think Youtubes recommendation algorithm is to blame. It's probably to easy to fool; have a nice clickbaity title, some clickbaity thumbnails, and you're much more likely to get hits. YT should eliminate those factors, as it only lowers the bar, but they don't.
Haha, I made my own bot a while back ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvZs4sXbeaQ ). It makes videos out of wikipedia pages, so I figure it's not terrible. If you're thinking about doing such a thing, take note from me, and make sure the voice sounds okay from the beginning.
