> I suspect that being a dongle is part of the appeal of Chromecast for many people.

Exactly. Also: I just want to watch stuff. I don't want AI or smart-home features.

I'm in Canada, which I think it's similar. I'm not sure, but I would guess yes, because Latinos are considered PoC, independently of actual skin colour, AFAIK. If I say to anyone that I'm white, they'll think I'm wrong, because of accent+name

Hard to be hispanic when I'm 50% German, 25% Italian, 25% Portuguese (in terms of my grandparents/grand-grandparents). Where I'm from in Brazil, it's very common for people to be eligible for getting Italian and German citizenships (wife and myself included)

Most of the time it does NOT mean skin color. Otherwise 'caucasian' wouldn't be there, a lot of latinos (or at least Brazilians) would be 'white' too, my wife (who basically reflects light) and myself included.

> throw a piece out the window

Also, don't throw thrash out the window and don't teach your kids to do it.

It's hard to do that when you have to drop your phone at the counter and whoever gets it is not the actual person fixing it

If the problem you are having is that the drawer is not opening, how are you going to remove them before the carpenter comes in to get it open?

Or in the phone case: if the phone/screen dies, how can you do anything with it before sending to repair?

But if the phone doesn't come with a card pre-installed, people are going to complain that it doesn't work, or that they didn't know they had to purchase a card.

Unless it comes with a card, but the card is not inserted, so the user has to do it before booting up the phone

In my company we use hackerrank for the coding interviews, but more as a whiteboard, since we are not doing in-person interviews anymore. We say that syntax is not the most important thing, we are not going to run the code, and that anything they would usually check on google/SO, they can just ask us.

I see... It's kinda true still, as before we had that on the free plan.

they used to have you read wiki articles like, 6 years ago? I feel that over the years, Duolingo started focusing way more on the game aspect than learning.

The spaced repetition is also mostly gone, only somewhat available on desktop.

Duolingo is great, because learning a language (and many other skills) is a matter of doing it consistently. If you have a 4 hour class once a week but don't study or read anything in Spanish outside of the class, you will forget things before the next class.

Of course, Duolingo is not magical, but it gives you enough vocabulary and understanding that you can start following people on twitter/instagram and know what's happening. Then you start trying to reply and interact, and then at some point try a book, then a TV show..

Also, many people plan on starting something (like learning a language) later on, when they have more time. Many people I know that wanted to learn English (Im Brazilian) didn't start years ago because they `didn't have time`, so now, after a few years, they still need to start from 0

But you still need money to afford the increased property taxes, otherwise you'll have to sell and move out. Also, if you own, you only get money when you sell. If you are living there for a couple generations and don't plan on moving, the only thing you get is increased property taxes, and those foreigners complaining about your culture and trying to change it

> have a plan on how to deal with this or handle it?

Seems the plan is around the expectation that the newcomers, being white and rich, are going to get their way in the end. Which I truly hope not.

Adding to that, I think gfycat should be more used than giphy, at least based on how much gfycat content I see there
FalconSensei

probably it'll be gone. gfycat already banned it, creating another service (redgifs I think) and moving that content there

Wasn't aware of that, thanks

Google doesn't have anything competing with TikTok, as far as I know

Yes, they pay. Because it helps keeping users active, in case of Instagram, for example. And in slack's case, I think when you install the app you can have it for free (with limitations), or pay to remove said limitations. In that case, slack may not (IMO) pay then.

if you were already using giphy, it's not like you had your privacy before the acquisition...
