Not to splice hair, but Google isn't just "surviving", so the amount needed for DDG to survive is probably even smaller than that. They don't need to be as profitable as Google Search (which is much more profitable than the company as a whole) to do well.
Indeed, the part that they illustrated with Pong does show that in environments where you lose packets or have to reconnect there should be a more noticeable advantage.
It can be confusing to compare the mortality rate of cases in hospitals (which are be definition the worst cases) to the mortality rate of all infections (many of which never get to hospitals or get officially diagnosed). Gotta make sure we compare apples to apples.
I'd use the DDG iOS app if only the search field wasn't at the very top, out of reach in one-hand phone typing... It's terrible UX on anything but the smallest phones out there.
This is exactly what happened. Verizon probably didn't know that most of the traffic they were buying were because of adult content, and then they killed that. I wish they had sold it to Pornhub instead.
Exactly. Every market correct feels like it's going to be the big one as its happening, and most of them pass.. By the time people start to feel like maybe it's over, market levels are usually well off the bottom and so everybody who wanted to "wait on the sidelines" miss their chance..
And it's a known biological fact that during teenager years the circadian rhythm is affected and normal sleep is pushed later in the night. Having teens wake up early is literally fighting biology and can't but have negative results on their health, education, socialization, etc.
Peter Attia (MD) had a podcast episode where he talked about being a resident and how it almost killed him (asleep while driving) and was bad for patient.
Also explained that the guy who created the residency program was a cocaine addict who rarely slept, and since then all doctors have to try to follow his crazy schedule for no good reason..
I love quality private labels. One more is good news. Competition keeps price low and quality higher. I buy a lot of Kirkland stuff at Costco, some Great Value stuff at Walmart, and increasingly more AmazonBasics stuff on Amazon.
My rule of thumb tends to be: Always try the cheaper private label at first, and only if it's not good enough do I move on to branded stuff. With most things, the private label stuff is just as good.
There are many other LCA studies, go find them. They all say similar things, and it makes sense when you think about how many gallons of gasoline or diesel a car can burn over its useful life (15-20 years).
If you look at page 29 of this LCA by Audi, you can see that they show an ICE car's impact at about 20% manufacturing, 80% usage, and around 1% recycling at the end of life:
All the Life cycle analysis I've seen (don't have the sources handy) have shown that the vast majority of an ICE's car's impact is from the fuel that is burned and not from production, usually around 80% driving and less than 20% production.
