I'm sort of banking on that. I expect our landfills will be mined by junkers. There is a lot of rare earth elements, metals, and plastics that won't biodegrade very quickly. Little snake bots tunneling through could pick them all up. It's all a matter of need, we'll deplete the finite resources soon.

You're not engaging deeply. I find myself in these insane microcosms of things I'm interested in, where people are deeply engaged in creating new and interesting content. I follow artists, designers, fashion, extreme sports, my friends, brands, everything. It's a photo blog in a Twitter style rapid fire format, where everyone is an equal because we all have to create good and interesting comment. There's no way to hide behind words, your content has to be good. And people notice. I've learned so much just from videos of artisans and artists posting how-to and process clips. It's the one thing Twitter should have done but never could have. It's short form blogging in visual form, for me, it just works and I get a lot out of it every damn day.

I see more metal than dirt in all of their experiments. No biohazard markers anywhere so probably not using waste.

The best way to farm in space is to convert human waste into manure and compost, and you need to have other organisms to do that. I don't see red worms either.

NASA won't be able to engineer plants in space, it will have to adopt a microbiome that exists on earth already that can be modularized into a spacecraft. Growing lettuce is a joke, you need to figure out how to make pigs and chickens into astronauts.

I'm not joking.

I didn't read the article but the headline makes me postulate that this is because the optimal individual strategy in Prisoner's Dilemma is tit-for-tat.

Respond in kind to every action taken against you. If someone offends, attack, if they offer peace, be peaceful.

Nice people will more often offer the olive branch (sub-optimally), so anyone else playing the optimal strategy will offer it back. Over time this probably results in a lower violence rate. Even mean people (also sub-optimal) will get dragged into niceness over time since nice/mean probably changes dynamically.

My crazy conspiracy theory is that Makerbot was acquired by Stratasys as a ploy to buy out the most dangerous and high quality big hobbyist 3D printer brand and then torpedo it with value engineering to allow them to sell their own in house brand (uPrint) better. Maybe that's not true, but the Gen 5 Replicator was Day 0 garbage.

My Replicator Gen 5 was not functional on launch, I never got a good print out of it. The self calibration function was non-functional out of the box after one print, and the inability to manually level was designed out from the Rep2, a design so good, international manufacturers copied it in the form of the Flashforge. The Rep 5 was completely redesigned for no reason, the integral filament reel was intended to bully you into buying Makerbot brand filament on their custom reels, the "new" software made it so you could CHANGE LESS SETTINGS, like you know, temperature, or feed rate. Basically Gen 5 was a corporate ball of dark patterns and poor regressive design, completely overpriced, and shipped before it was ready to boot. One could argue that making the Makerbot brand a more closed design was a choice of positioning, but I feel that is only justified if you can deliver the ease of use value, which Gen 5 didn't.

Sadly, those Brooklynite's jobs might have been doomed when the Stratasys logo first went up on the Makerbot sign.

I write throwaway stories for my own entertainment. I edited one and tossed it down the rabbit hole, about 1500 words. Assuming they are legit I made $80 on less than an hour total of work if they accept my submission, I retain my rights to my work, and voila.

They could steal my shitty work but I guess I would consider that a win as well.
