I believe we were talking about this basically being Web 3.0 / The Semantic Web almost 20 years ago. The internet then went in the opposite direction of locking data down and limiting 3rd party clients
In the current state, it's basically just a self verification. When you use a new device it shows a series of emoji on each device and asks you if they're the same, then the device is verified.
