Switched to Codex last week, and I'm already MUCH happier than I have been with Claude Code. Which surprised me.

All those billions spent on tokens by Meta, and not a single iota of value generated by any of it

Protip: in the olden days we used to be able to read and write code ourselves. Worth trying while Claude is down! You might have fun and learn something!

It really is awful right now. I'm lucky enough to still have a job, but floated my resume around earlier this year. I have a pretty good resume and and 15 YOE, and got turned down EVERYWHERE. I used to at least get interviews at like 50% of places I applied to.

And then recruiter spam is COMPLETELY gone. I'm not really complaining, but it feels indicative of where things are at.

I knew this was going to be the end result after seeing so many companies reward employees based on how many tokens they were using. My company even pulled stats and gave physical awards out at an in person retreat. Ridiculous, and it was never going to last.

People are very proud of their prompts I guess

It's like people being proud of the AI slop art they produce

> The other thing I can't help but see though is how excited my non-programmer friends are to finally be able to make software. The sense of pride and accomplishment from non-coders who are finally able to make something work the way they wanted to.

There was nothing stopping them from making software before... Over the past ~15 years, the amount of resources to learn programming, and to make the whole process approachable, is staggering. It just took some time and effort. People are just excited that they can skip past the effort part now. But we've lost something in the process.

Yeah, it's wild to be writing a post like this in June 2026. Even if he thought Google was somehow still salvageable, how did he justify staying there after Google immediately bent the knee to Trump with the $1 million bribe a year and a half ago?

Sounds like it's working for you, but none of that explains to me why every engineer should be doing that, and every day

And also delivering things nobody wants or will use, just because they can.

It seems to be based on some idea that there's no way you can be productive enough without AI. But I've yet to see any companies really shipping meaningful software at some unprecedented speed that was not possible pre-AI. Instead, I see a lot of half baked features and buggy apps. I am not convinced that those that choose to either NOT use AI or use it more sparingly / judiciously (my preference), are somehow going to be "left in the dust".

I read the entire paragraph, and the entire article. Nothing in there explained to me why every engineer should be using AI every day.

> I think every engineer should be using AI daily.

Why?

Liminialism is way way more popular these days than cyberpunk or anything like that. Please go talk to a group of teenagers if you don't believe me.

Without the protection of a union, "just saying no" is a good way to get fired

It's not actually that hard, most companies are morally superior to Meta. Even the other evil ones.

Also on the Omnipod, and I also always travel with both extra pods AND extra insulin pens (basal and bolus insulin). That way I can switch back to MDI if for whatever reason my pods fail or I can't use them.

I'm on a pump but always take backup insulin pens and needles when I travel, so that I can switch to MDI if needed. My QOL with a pump is so much better than it was with a decade+ of MDI.

AI makes code maintenance harder
