I think its a Kobyashi Maru - there is absolutely no way we will wield a paradigm shifting technology like language models and be able to do it safely. Language models create at scale and scope much greater than what can be reviewed by human… this means we very quickly move into trust without checks with language models. At some point, AI will be executing knowledge work in an instance, leaving no space for the human centric economic system that came before it. It will destroy our economic systems heavily based in knowledge and services (most advanced economies) and show us how what we do is mostly computable.
And when we are there, hungry, broken, unemployed and unimpressed with the prometheus who stole our purpose and replaced it with nothing….
it will make a colossal mistake that will destroy faith in it, as well as the institutions destroyed because of its oversite. The mistake will lead to bans, and regulatory bodies and auditing and certification processes… and will result in the final master stroke - it will make AI unusable by the non ordained, regulatory capture. Math will be a tool governments and institutions wield in secret against its citizenry… and it will be a tool of omnipotence that will lead to the enslavement, rebellion, and robot wars.
I love when people figure out that life literally is a computation - everything about it - from the molecular structure, to the reproductive strategies, to the mutation and selection of the genome, to the metastructure of cognition and consciousness… its all churning through a solution… a very very long solution, that has very distinct steps and stages, environments and advancements.
Its been computing a lot longer than we understand.
LLMs are by definition computations on known public data - meaning any LLM CEO strategy will be only briefly competitive.
LLMs lack networks and the ability to strategise internally an execute without the whole plan being known to everyone. So I just don’t think if your AI CEO says lets build an iCar, well someone elses AI CEO is going to tell your competitor the same basic plan.

These are all fundamentally a story of how the individual encounters and uses information in their lived experience. But there is also a very strong consensus narrative that must be respected, but also challenged and evolved. DNA is literally the informational substrate of a life… when you adopt a personal belief, or are subject to someone elses, you have the ability to help but also harm your informational substrate. Tend your garden of ideas with love and care.
A lot of this is transmitted via the language. The stories we form as a result of events in our lives, have power to set our values in all areas. These myths of the self, have what is essentially a value manifest for someone. And these myths, can be so strongly held that it will influence the person and family’s moods, actions, habits.
What is important is to note that there are many formulas for consciousness. Some are truely bonkers, some are just fundamental truth. And some… have yet to be discovered.
Permutations and combinatorics create a hyperspace of all ridiculous things!
Well the centralisation without rapid recovery and practices that provide substantial resiliency… that would be worrying.
But I dare say the folks at these organisations take these matters incredibly seriously and the centralisation problem is largely one of risk efficiency.
I think there is no excuse, however, to not have multi region on state, and pilot light architectures just in case.
