Kudoa for this, but it feels like there should be a more direct way? I mean, he first invented basically a general-purpose execution platform. That in itself is cool, but the fact that it then can execute a chess program is not actually that surprising.

What about directly encoding the rules of the game plus some basic strategy?

It goes on.

> the new standard that companies like Samsung and Google would clone the same way they cloned the hardware and software design of the iPhone.

That's misrepresenting history in ways it's not even funny.

Stopped reading at that point. The article took too long to even sketch it's main point anyway.

As the videos show, there are still a few usability issues. Full-screen switching somewhere else just to enter a name for example doesn't get you very far.

But there is not much missing and I like the POC!

I'm aware what I can do. I was wondering how they did it.

How did they generate these? If I try with ChatGPT then it refuses, citing a possible violation of their content policy. Even when I tell it that this is for me personally, it knows who I am, and that it's just for a test -- which obviously I could be just pretending, but again, it knows who I am but still refuses.

To which everybody will click yes. They have been conditioned by too much half-baked crap out there that requires it and the need to go on with their lives instead of having tp start investigating things they anyway don't have a clue about (and don't want to, not being IT folks).

To both of you, wireguard is the way to go.

So, parent poster: yes, you are doing it right.

Grandparent: Use a VPN, close everything else.

What kind of "hosting service" are you referring to? Just run wireguard on the home server, or your router, and that's it. No more infra required.

If you make a product that is so locked down by default that folks need to jump through 10 hoops before anything works then your support forums will be full of people whining that it doesn't work and everybody goes to the competition that is more plug and play.

Realize why Windows still dominates Linux on the average PC desktop? This is why.

Most computing people habe at home is some locked down cloud crap which neither you nor an attacker can do anything with.

It's not hackable though in the original sense of the word, so not interesting the crowd at HN. Docker is, for everybody, good and bad.

It is widely known not to expose anything to the public internet unless it's hardened an/or sandboxed. A random service you use for playing around definitely does not meet this description and most people do know that, just like what a power tool can do with your fingers.

> None of the database guides I followed had warned me about the dangers of exposing a docker containerized database to the internet.

Um that's pretty ... naïve?

Closing even your VPN port goes a little far. Wireguard for example doesn't even reply on the port if no acceptable signature is presented. Assuming the VPN software is recent, that's as close as you can come to having everything closed.

I personally don't actually mind and don't infer the rest of the page to be garbage. Maybe because I don't consider the image garbage either.

I understand much of your rambling, but the wax that's sprayed on apples isn't an issue. To the contrary, it increases the shelf life of them, reducing waste. And it's not dangerous either, so pouncing on that particular detail isn't furthering your cause..

If your country can do it, then the US also can!

Irony is, syringes can be reused well after sterilizing with heat.

But I agree that extremism usually just drives people the opposite way. Especially in the medical field plastic will stay, but in lots of other areas it can be reduced.

Propaganda will always be a problem. But progress is possible.

Nobody will really miss single apples wrapped in plastic in the store.

There are lots of wasteful uses for sure. Too much crap out there being produced essentially for the land fill. This can all go away.

But there are many areas where plastics are quite literally life savers and it will be hard to replace them. For example, look at a modern ER and imagine it without plastics. Won't happen.

100% this.

Also, keep in mind that the article is from his university's PR dept. It's not independent work by a journalist.
