Css is fine. Not perfect but fine. It's an approachable way to style documents that look ok on different devices. It's best when used sparingly.
When I see people complain about css, they usually fall into a few camps. First theres the person who wants everything to look the same everywhere. They want web design to work like a print document. Sorry but thats now how it works.
And then theres people who are writing web apps, not documents. I feel sorry for those folks. Cuz css does suck for that, and there's no easy solution.
But for documents, css is fine. Although it wouldnt be as important if you all marked up your documents correctly in the first place.
"all the kids getting their rightful inheritance from all their respective parents, not only my kids."
Some kids dont get an inheritance. Some get a huge one. None of it is "rightful"... Its not deserved. Its not based on need or on merit. Its based on who your parents are. There are few things less democratic.
"That said, I don't think there is anything wrong with providing for your kids and not others."
In the context of widening inequality, your sentence should read "at the expense of others". Im not opposed to inheritance per say but it should be highly taxed.
"My motivation for accumulating wealth is largely driven by a desire to provide for my future family members. inheritance tax is theft."
So its bad because it would hurt you.
This is the problem. The way you think. Estate taxes could pay for services that help the poor and inprove our society as a whole. But you're only concerned with making sure your own kids get out ok.
But thats your job as a parent. I get it. You see a dog eat dog world out there, and you wanna get your kids out alive. But just why are we so scared? Why is everyone fighting over scraps?
Here is why the middle ground wont work. Changing technology is a lot faster than changing human nature. Propoganda works because it exploits how our mind works. Sure we can learn to listen to our better angels more often--we need better media education and critical thinking in schools for sure. But that takes time, and it's not perfect either. In many cases, the problems are better served with changing the plarforms or the technology.
There was no campaign. Nobody met in a smoke filled room and decided they were going to ruin the guy's life. What actuallu happened was the guy was a douchebag, and people called him out for it.
HN is the only place I find people defending that guy. I suspect it's because this forum is full of douchebags who identify with him.
There are plenty of people whp are great at excel but you chose to talk about him. Don't give that guy any more attention. Thats what he wants. Lets all just forget about him and go on with our lives.
Prohibiting 3rd party repairs doesn't make you any safer than you are now. If you were concerned about hardware attacks you could continue to bring your computer to the apple store, and never have to worry. All this action does is remove options for those of us who do wanna fix their own machines.
And this is assuming you trust apple to inspect their parts closely. Their computers are still made in china. Why couldn't the chinese governnent coerce their suppliers to commit sabotage?
Also, when was the last time your Mom was the target of a hardware attack? Is she a foreign diplomat or intelligence officer?
They were probably more upset at your rude tone than your stance on facebook.
A nicer way to say it: "It's just facebook so i wouldnt worry about it. Do whatever you think is right and if theyre your friend in sure they'll appreciate it"
