This list of bullet points contradicts itself, and doesn't even have a leg worth standing on. So, minus the critical thinking, it's just hiss and boo, bile and hate.

The publicity for all this nonsense is getting a little bit silly. Especially considering all the fanfare of the drone delivery vaporware announced prior to Holiday/Christmas 2016 season, which still has only extremely select, limited, niche pilot zones, mostly taking advantage of weather and isolation in desertified areas.

So we're arriving at a place where usage saturates norms beyond their capacity for civilized utility, much like in 1999 when file sharing suffered, all because the unprepared entertainment industry unleashed a violent backlash and counter campaign against Napster. From which, arguably, file sharing in general has never recovered (due to willful poisoning with malware, and fear/doubt spreading with highly publicized, yet rare child pornography pursuit and prosecution, which was then subsequently incentivized with paid informant programs leading to evidence fabrication, and perpetrator/suspect framing, no less), was destroyed, and now, we have a handful of centralized, moderated, controlled streaming services instead, all watching our every move.

So, what will this drop-off delivery arms race bring? Glitter bombs? Shotgun shells? Partially automated remote control (and over-hyped) quad-copter delivery? What else?

This may come as a surprise to you, but some people actually like the kind of experience you’ve described.

Probably difficult to imagine why, especially for people who don’t expect this from crowded city events.

Uh, well, for starters, you've got this blazing, uncontrolled discharge of energy, and it's just dumping tons of heat, untraviolet light and irregular magnetic force and radio transmission in all directions.

So there's a lot of waste and noisy interference being unloaded in all directions. In fact, it's so wasteful that it's dumping audible noise for miles beyond even the limits of its kinetic heat. Why waste that much energy? It's obviously costly to produce, no?

We don't even have a report on how much of the grid's juice went up in smoke. Certainly more than one hour of a 100 watt lightbulb. Maybe a megawatt hour? Maybe one hundred megawatt hours? An hour's worth of one hundred million lightbulbs? Not impossible.

And then, of course, there's the fact that night time is a good thing. All vertebrates sleep. All plants need a night cycle, for the dark phase of photosynthesis.

Sure, the city is this unnatural human social landscape, but, uh... I think the novelty of a constant high intensity electrical arc's discharge will wear off in about a week or less, for pretty much everybody, and nobody would want to live near it.

To borrow the catch phrase from XKCD, sometimes, it's just that:

  Someone is WRONG on the internet.

But there's a sort of natural conductivity/inductivity to social networks, that varies as you chain together personalities, and the dumber you go, the more emotive things get.

Ask any lawyer, picking a jury usually involves pulling the dumbest, most incompetent people, while polling for their gut alignment, relative to case at hand. These are the most emotional, and likely most easily driven to judgement. They also usually lack power in their daily lives, and are eager for some trigger time, so to speak.

So, now, put that on the internet. Pack these people together in clusters relative to their home towns and high schools, and never let them escape each other. Preserve every last memory, especially the most embarrassing ones that their family members can command, to bring an obnoxious personality to heel, if possible.

Take everyone with a shit job, with company and store policies design to screw the customer. Ever call center goon, every cellular and wireless store clerk gunning for contract sign ups. Ask them what's wrong with the world.

Now, randomly distribute agit prop into a flashing marquee on their home page, to gin them up, as they start cruising for love interests, and the unattainable crushes that taunt them on a daily basis. Give them parking tickets, too many bills to pay. Make them late with the rent. Get them pregnant.
