While "people experiencing homelessness" or "unhoused person" is more cumbersome, it does help emphasize that it is a person, a human being, being discussed. Like the switch to saying "enslaved people/person", that kind of language puts the humanity of the individual first, not something they are experiencing (being enslaved or lacking a house). Which I think could help with empathy around the subject.

I haven't made one yet, but the idea of a [0]Death Book is one way to deal with that.

Yeah, I signed up for updates more than a year ago and haven't gotten any. Migicovsky seems more interested in Beeper than furthering this project. Which I get, an app is easier and cheaper to deploy than a phone. Still a bit disappointed, I might end up buying a Unihertz Atom XL for a reasonable screen size with bonus FRS radio built in.

Off topic, but why do the pictures in the article look like that? Is that HDR? It's so weird to me that it's distracting from the text.

The Light Phone not being open source killed it for me. Or at least having an easier option for alternative os.

I've had this[0] bookmarked for a while. A good list of things to keep note of somewhere safe. Probably the old "3-2-1" backup method at minimum.

It's size is what turned me off most about the devterm. I would be much more tempted by a device just a bit bigger. This[1] blog post has good pictures, one next to a DVD case for size comparison.

Aside from the quality of the advice, I am turned off by the author not being named. I believe this was intended to make the advice seem more timeless but it just strikes me as a gimmick.

I realy want the nobe cars 100 gt[1] to be a real thing, but I don't think it will ever really be produced. Seems like a great upgrade from the golf cart style small ev that would be perfect for a commute like mine, 20 miles one way partially on the highway.

Somewhat related, this and Tilt Five[1] have me excited for the AR gaming space.

I get that this is a concept, but why not use lighter-than-air drones? Either hot air (I'd see about an electric heater, no idea how feasible that is), or little helium blimps. Then just little fans to keep them in place, which could be quieter.

I think I mostly want to see little blimp/airship swarms be a thing that I could buy, given a lottery win or two.

Ever since reading William Gibson's /Pattern Recognition/ I've wanted to own one of these. I inherited a much less sophisticated mechanical calculator from my grandfather. It is a flat rectangle that has slots cut in to both sides, about the size of an A5 sheet of paper. One side is addition and the opposite is subtraction. A clever use of space, but not half as clever as a Curta.

Hey, I just wanted to chime in as well. I am a few years older than you, but I have been exactly where you are. I was a gifted kid but my grades declined around 16/17. I felt 0% prepared for college and withdrew before they flunked me out. Tried again after a few months and the same thing. That was (oh dear) almost a decade ago.

I'm currently a student at a local tech college and have two semesters to go for my Application Development Associate's degree. It was a huge struggle for me to have any self worth in the years between dropping out and when I applied to attend the tech school. There is a bit of unspoken judgement against tech schools (at least I definitely felt that way), but the instructors there are often very knowledgeable and approachable. Just because you didn't graduate from /a/ college doesn't mean you can't graduate or that you are in any way lesser than those that did.

I also started seeing a specialist about ADHD and I'm currently on a low Adderall dose. I was also skeptical or felt like asking to be tested would seem like I just wanted the drugs. But my diagnosis and Rx has been essential to my success at my current job and in my degree path. It might be good to look up a few ADHD specialists in your area, it's a complex disorder that doesn't always present the same way in people.

You are young still and have plenty of time to fail in new and exciting ways! But really, you have so much time to find things you enjoy and are good at. Were I in your position, I would first look for a job with a shorter commute. Actually, when I was about 25, I took a $2/hr pay cut because I was fed up with management at my current job and needed a change for my mental health. It worked wonders and I was making more at the new job within 6 months. My point here being you might take a "lateral" (on paper) move that will greatly improve your quality of life. I'm glad you reached out for help, it prompted me to finally make an account. This post was so close to my own experience I could have written it.
