Sonic announced expansion to my neighborhood 2 years ago with a status tracking page and everything!

Status hasn't changed since the initial announcement 2 years ago...

Exempt from requiring an ODB port that outputs the narrow scope ODB data.

They are mainly exempt because most of that data is emissions related. ODB came about due to CA requiring lower emissions and smog checks. They needed a way to quickly and cheaply verify it independently of the manufacturer. Unfortunately, in VWs case, the law assumed the data isn't modified before being sent.

I have that where I am... Total bullshit. But I make sure I use it as much as I can, download tons of stuff to just delete it 30 seconds later.

EVs are currently exempt from this!

We need OBD regulations to be updated for reflect these new technologies. I think hydrogen vehicles are also exempt.

Rub, scrub... Was really supposed to be run but it got the answer I was looking for!

Right now, I'm doing about half of that but I am rcloning data between 2 ceph clusters. (Proxmox and a arm rook ceph cluster).

Legacy automakers are just big integrators and rarely develop their own core firmware. They just take the existing signals from all the different parts and program a conductor to get the symphony to play nicely together.

They will continue to get eaten by manufacturers that can control the entire stack, from servo firmware all the way up to infotainment.
