People expecting this technology to have such an impact so fast says a lot about the technology

So much pessimism and downright denial on the impact of this technology.

The old guard have put earplugs in and wonder why everyone's dancing, they just can't hear the music. In this context it's their refusal to try anything and attempt to downplay everything. The technology will move on, with or without them, and that's the most beautiful part.

You can hate the marketing of AI, you can hate people starting startups to take advantage of this new technology, but you can not stop this technology from moving forward. They will fall into the same category as the people who denied the impact of the Microcomputer, the Graphical User Interface, and the Smartphone.

People here seem to forget how much the average consumer uses ChatGPT. You see it online all the time people saying how they use ChatGPT to answer all their questions, do their writing for them, heck some even offload their thinking to ChatGPT.

It's not looking good for Google. I'd hope Anthropic and Gemini could capture more consumer market share from OpenAI but it's not looking good. Tell the average person about Claude or Gemini and the only thing you'll hear is "oh so like ChatGPT" artifacts would not be enough to convince them.

I don't think OpenAI dominance in consumer benefits anyone in the long run.

> There are Muslim women right now that march in Britain in the name of Sharia

This gets so overblown especially by people who benefit from this idea being spread, while the truth is that the amount of people who actually do want Sharia is very low and the amount of people who are actually "marching" to get it implemented is even lower.

How would you approach rebuilding foundational knowledge from the kindergarten level? I have completed all the courses on Khan Academy from kindergarten through 6th grade and have also practiced with more challenging problems beyond those provided on Khan Academy. I'm trying to find the most effective strategies to solidify these fundamental skills.

Iran is definately putting out mass propaganda especially on social media.

Israel has one of if not the largest propaganda/bot campaigns on the entire planet, followed by either Russia or China. It's definately working for them so they won't be stopping anytime soon.

It's interesting how long the word "agents"/"intelligent agents" have been around for and how long they've been hyped up for. If you go back to the 80s and 90s you will see how Microsoft was hyping up "intelligent agents" in Windows but nothing ever became of it[1].

I have yet to see an actual useful usecase for agents despite the countless posts asking for examples nobody has provided one.

The obsession with SF amazes me. Despite being HCOL, brutal talent war, and a host of other things investors will still push you to setup operations there even at the beginning where your runway is super important. Talent being a main driver doesn't make much sense when the war there is like a bloodbath, people who are considered "top talent" get many offers so they can jump ship whenever there is a good opportunity.

If you setup operations in another city whether it's in a European city like Dublin[1] or another US city like Denver, you can attract top talent and pay them lower than you would in somewhere like SF. You will have larger runway to find PMF. If you really want to go to SF you could do that once you've found PMF and scaled up.

I'm curious as to what others think.

[1] Some would say Dublin is HCOL, that's true to some extent. There's a housing crisis there but it's still considerably cheaper than SF and salaries are lower than in SF. Apartments are not difficult to find and there's a lot of other places you can live outside of Dublin which would take you 20 - 40 minutes to get to the city.
