Then I wonder why the parent comment mentioned OrbStack as if it were somehow comparable or an alternative to this.

I'm not sure if you were arguing against the parent comment or supporting it but did you actually mean "/" and not "~/"?

I feel like you're assuming that applications have to be honest about what they are when they request a user-prompted permission. SIP makes that irrelevant.

Does OrbStack allow you to create MacOS Containers? It doesn't seem like it from their website. It seems like it just runs on MacOS to let you create Linux containers.

So is it designed to approximate a fixed dawn or a fixed noon? It sounds like you're contracting yourself unless I'm missing something.

But a timezone system with a fixed dawn isn't even being proposed so that doesn't seem to be one of the options you mentioned as being preferred. That does sound nice but that doesn't seem like anything similar to any of the things being mentioned or suggested.

Can you clarify for me? I genuinely can't see a benefit to switching. All I see is that switching complicates things for everyone. As someone that lives in a place that didn't observe DST to begin with, I'm confused as to why anyone would want to switch.

The user doesn't know that any of that stuff is going on, though, and you don't need data for this to work.

It's not anywhere near as complicated as you're making it out to be. Those saying "I had to go to an ATM" are simply voicing a legitimate downside of cash that this doesn't have because you only have to get an iPhone once whereas you have to go to an ATM/bank every time you need cash.

I'm down to just my backup card in my MagSafe wallet. I'll occasionally keep my ID in there too but only if I know I'm going out to a place that needs to check a physical ID. If I could, I would do without the wallet completely.

Home Depot is exactly the one that I wasn't able to use it at. I don't go there too often, though, so it's one of those things where I plan for it when I need to go now.

And there's no fallback for when you have to make multiple payments and don't have the cash on hand already. There's no fallback for an ATM outage where you can't withdraw the cash. There's no fallback for a communications/network outage at the bank where they can't query your balance and withdraw funds for you.

There are problems with any system. This one has the advantage of convenience.

It sounds like the whole benefit behind this new form of Apple Pay acceptance is that there is no app. You just double tap the sleep/wake button to open Apple Pay and then tap the phone to the payee's phone. That's no more complicated then reaching for a wallet and pulling cash out of the wallet.

I use it nearly every day and definitely for almost every purchase I make. I no longer carry around a wallet now that digital IDs are a thing and have only had 1 situation in the last 6 months where I needed a physical card because they had TTP disabled on their terminal.

There's no way to set the codec on the Mac unless the individual software has an option for it. Considering that no other devices have this issue and it was improved with a firmware update, I'm going to say it wasn't an issue with the Mac at all.

So you don't understand that words have meaning and that's why "or" was in there. Got it.

As many as are synced via iCloud. I currently can switch between iPhone, iPad, Mac (multiples), Macbooks (multiples), and Apple TV and also Apple Watch. I also have them paired with my gaming PC and some gaming consoles but those don't automatically switch. I have to go into a Bluetooth menu and connect them but that's quick and no different from most Bluetooth headsets. The in-ecosystem stuff is the killer piece for me.

I'm not ignoring it. Why would a Jabra representative lie to me and say that it only supports 2 active connections instead of lying to me to say that it supports as many as I want? It's far more likely that they were telling me the truth about their product and that you're misrepresenting your experience than it is that they were lying to make their product seem worse while you're telling the truth.

I feel like this is a pretty standard feature of most earbuds but I don't think there are many headphones/cans that do that. I agree that it's a neat feature and wish more things did that (while also giving the option to disable it).

I guess I'm lucky then. We upgraded all my Macs at home and all the Macs at the office to Big Sur without bricking any of them.

Or maybe you're just being contrarian...

How can you say "No, I'm not" when I've explicitly made the point that the Jabra headset can only have 2 active connections. Just because you've never needed to connect more than 2 devices doesn't mean that this isn't an important distinction for me or others. I literally said "you're either overselling this or only using 2 devices".
