oh come on, this predictions are just the tip of the iceberg. they address a system obviously in a downward trajectory, but fail to assume the system itself could go out the window.
we are at the end of a multi-decade global experiment in massive debt and abuse of fiat currency. printing paper is fine but it has to be checked by the creation of real value in the economy. we threw that out the window years ago...there is ONE HALF A QUADRILLION dollars in global debt outstanding (all public, private, govt debts). there is no government or any other body that has any real power to address this massive imbalance. what do they do? if they repudiate their currencies, the governments are essentially committing suicide. if they try to monetize all the debt, they create zimbabwe-like inflation everywhere. if they let asset prices deflate, you get a twenty year ultra-recession.
its too late for policy fixes now. the time for that was 1982. when (not if) the US debt hits twenty trillion or so (at our current rate, will happen before 2018), its game over. no more USA. the dollar will become worthless. by the way, unless all the baby boomers die tomorrow, you are already on the hook for at least fifty trillion (US govts own estimates) for their healthcare and social security by 2030. so in reality your kids may see the US debt go to $100 trillion. when (not if) the dollar becomes worthless, the world economy is done, over.
before 2020, people in the USA will be shooting each other with guns in order to obtain food and water. the deed to your house will be your ability to defend your property with a gun. like russia after the bolsheviks, you will come home to find three families squatting in your living room. if they have more guns, its their house. don't believe me? get out of your browser and go drive to areas of detroit or other relics of the rust belt, they are already looking like eastern europe after the fall of the soviets. its already started folks. don't feel too comfy in california, the state is essentially broke already.
if you think this is a freakshow rant, go read up on the french revolution. you know what caused it? DEBT. they simply refused to believe that they could go into so much debt that their society would actually fall apart
or why not look at weimar germany? look at who pulled them out of their currency catastrophe?
an american stalin will emerge before 2025, if the US hasn't already engaged in a civil war in which americans use atomic weapons on other americans
i am open to even one cogent response as to how the US and world can realistically hope to even slow down the ultimate debt meltdown. obama is going to throw another trillion on to the debt in his first three months with his massive stimulus plan, so don't tell me he is going to fix it
just remember that the single most impactful, game-changing, and profitable revolution in web uis in the last ten years was the dramatic simplicity of the google homepage...DESIGNED BY TWO UNIX SYSTEMS HACKERS!
you can buy an i7-based desktop from dell for $1300, WITH A 24 INCH MONITOR. the i7 is at a minimum more than 200% faster than the mac pro's processors. don't believe me, read tomshardware or anandtech
for $2800 you can get one of the dell gaming i7 boxes that is tricked out far beyond anything apple offers hardware wise, once again, a minimum of 200% performance improvement
the mac math once again does not hold up. and where is their snob appeal? they don't even have an i7 box on the market
ask anyone occupational therapist if the apple keyboard is recommended over, say, the kinesis advantage pro. if you aren't using a kinesis or one of its real competitors right now, you are not a "keyboard snob"
the apple keyboard:
- has no discernable key travel
- is not split and contoured
- is too small
its probably the biggest ergonomic nightmare out there. fortunately few people actually use them after buying the computer
yes, i get particularly pissed by so-called counter-culture hipsters pissing all over the unwashed masses yet slavishly dedicated to the hypocrisy of crass consumerism when they think its "cool". the appletards go miles beyond any shopping-zombie i can think of in their pursuit of buying shit. and yes, it is shit. its stunning that there are morons buying the new macbooks for $2k!!!...i mean, you have to be braindead.
but the icing on the cake was when i bought the 3rd gen ipod nano. previous ipods were recognized by linux and various tools. but oh no, steve had to encrypt the firmware, thus pointlessly complicating what should be a trivial task - mounting a usb device. WHY???? what do you FUCKING CARE steve that i am trying to plug this into a linux box??? is it a problem that i don't buy into your end-end slavery? i replaced it with a cowon...at least they aren't going out of their way to fuck over users who don't goose-step a certain way
yeah its amazing that apple touts themselves as pro-user but their external keyboards are without a doubt the most craptastic worthless keyboards on the market. they look cool but are utterly useless for prolonged use
and yes apple takes your freedom and will slowly turn you into an idiot. we're software developers damnit, we're supposed to be interested in how the computer works under the hood, not looking to put a gramma-friendly interface on everything. i don't understand developers who look for "just works" at the expense of "show me the code"
no, you are just trading an "uncool" closed platform that bends you over for an apparently "cool" one. their hardware is unimpressive commodity stuff, and i don't even think osx is interesting. if you can't figure out ubuntu, maybe developing software isn't for you. the day is coming when people will reject steve jobs psyco-level control freak pointless upgrade cycle and macs will be uncool again...just get out ahead of the trend now and look that much hipper later.
