Why do so many companies separate product and engineering if it creates all these problems?
In my experience it works better when engineers report to product engineering managers. The only trade off is that you have to find engineers who have good product opinions, and product managers who the engineers actually want to be managed by - which helps you execute, anyway.
I’ve been working on a uBlock filter list to hide sticky features from common web sites.[1] If I ever use someone else’s computer, I’m always amazed at what a distracting mess the “real” web is vs the filtered version I use.
I’d happily welcome anyone’s improvements to the list; my only goal is to help people regain control over their time.
I don’t want to ask you to reveal your hometown to a stranger but am curious to learn more, especially after spending a year living in the French alps (Isère). Is there a list of quiet mountain towns in Oregon/CA/etc that would include yours?

I stayed except for a bathroom break, while friends left to smoke. I think Glass was trying to make a state of mind, not just have people hanging onto every note.
Even during Mozart’s time, opera was such a social event that people complained you could hardly hear the music.
I’m all for careful listening, but we shouldn’t invalidate people who listen to Glass the way he intended.
