Hi, I work at Mobile Jazz, a 100% remote "devshop" and I think the single most important thing that I can point out from my managers (both the CTO and CEO) that make them and the company so great is their constant focus in empowering others pushing people to be proactive and self-managed.
We enjoy a level of autonomy that I've hardly ever seen anywhere else. Being a 100% remote company, this is super important as it means you have to trust that your employees are doing the right thing and the most important way to make sure they do is to actually empower them to make decisions and being responsible for them while reassuring them them you have their backs.
Besides this specific thing. There are other things that make them stand out like the fact that they reinvest most of the profit of the company back into it while splitting some of that margin amongst all of us in the form of dividends. They also invest a lot in the happiness of the team, organizing gatherings several times per year both for working together (like a "workation" month in Cape Town) but also for pure fun (like skiing in the Alps).
I agree with you! Back in March I finished a 15 month trip around the world while working full time. I travelled to 40 different cities in 15 countries and while some places where difficult to adapt to and the conditions where I worked from were challenging, I can say that my productivity didn't diminish.
Since I came back (I live in Barcelona) I've attended retreats in the Alps (Austria for skiing + Italy for hiking just last week) plus 2 weeks in a very nice countryside house 2 hours from Barcelona where we worked together with 10 people from the office and in the afternoons we did hikes, wine tastings or went to the beach.
I'm a team member of the company and it's true that it's challenging to organize this kind of retreats for families but we've done it a couple of times and we're currently organizing one in the Caribbean and looking into ways to integrate 2 of our colleagues that have recently had or will soon have kids, e.g. hiring a full time Au Pair.
Also, we organize two types of events. Remote offices where the focus is on working from a remote place (Thailand, Cape Town) but also retreats (Ski trip) where the focus is on team building and there's little work. It's always easier for people with families to integrate in the second.
I've just signed up but I see it's only in private Beta, will you be launching anytime soon? This would really help me show my work faster to some of my clients before setting up a staging server!
I won't be travelling to Middle East however, in a more general sense, there have always been problems in the world and we shouldn't let them drive the course of our lives, in my humble opinion, that is.
Hi there, I work at Mobile Jazz and it actually takes me less than 1 minute to log in to every service (that's when I have to log in, cause most of the times I'm already logged in). In terms of Syncing, Asana does a nice job integrating several services via some extensions (like Harvest for example to start your timer directly from a task), also, most of the time we have a central document per project where we keep all the different links and references that are relevant to it. I work half of the time at the office, some days from my apartment in Barcelona and at least once a year I travel to Mexico and keep working from there while I spend some time with my family. Over the time I have get used to the remote working mindset and I must say that I find it very efficient.
Probably so, still you're not a retard simply because you work developing Wordpress or Joomla sites. The condescendent and aggressive tone of the reply makes me read nothing but "boo-hoo" from the typical hater that finds joys in arguing over everything. Instead of focusing in the learning experiences and interesting facts of the blog post, starting with a "yawn" doesn't make very constructive does it?
For a person trying to make a point about having a legal business in Thailand (sorry for the fortune spent) and hiring local people, you're actually being quite offensive calling them local retards. I'm sure those "retards" are not so much retarded if you actually funded a profitable company there, dou*bag. Or was it just because your charming personality?
Hey there! I've been following closely Bugfender's release process and I have to say that it's very exciting to see it live finally. It certainly is a very useful product when it comes to finding mysterious bugs in your user's device.

Hope these insights help and light up the debate!
