It's ok because this information was just being used to train their models.

Llama 3 was truly something special.

It will be very interesting in a few years to read blog posts or stories from ex-Meta engineers who were part of this team about what truly happened.

They definitely aren't dropping on-call rotation entirely, so what are they replacing it with?

The question is how much worse will it be in another 5 years?

Probably a $250k tech salary won't be enough.

The previous discussion was fascinating: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29104047

Does anyone working at one of these banks or similar know if this information still holds true?

And have any of the banks started using uv yet? Or will they forever be using pip?

Is anyone on HN still actually using Cursor in 2026?

Everyone I've spoken with is now using either Claude Code or Codex (or Copilot because their companies force them to).

Useful thread. Exciting to see what Will be possible in another few years.

I’d ask how this happens, but I’m afraid the answer would just be more disappointing.

I've been using Linux for over 20 years, systemd for over 10.

Yet there's always something new to learn and actually consider as another useful tool.

> the irony of going from "we are going to replace devs" to "we <3 devs, keep burning those tokens"

This is so true. Nicely put.

Super interesting to link these two concepts.

Another great post on this blog. I need to go back and read some other posts I've missed / that didn't make the front page of HN.

Apparently he only laid off "measurers" who wouldn't be able to build and sell their own product.

> AI conversations are like dreams: everyone has one they like and wants to share it with others ... but no on gives a crap about your dream/chat session, because it was uniquely appealing to you, and not them.

> Don't bore your co-workers (or others) with descriptions of your dreams, and don't throw a computer's dreams (AI chat logs) at them either.

This is a great quote, thanks for sharing.

Karpathy is also badmephisto, a name you might have heard of if you're into cubing.

Yes.

I’ve been using Erlang since the early 2010s, right around the time we (the tech industry) discovered that WhatsApp was supporting over 400 million active users with only like 30 engineers.

I reached out to one of their engineers at the time (when I still lived in the US) who kindly responded to some of my questions via email. We ended up meeting for coffee and still stay in touch to this day.

I can tell you that Erlang is still very much a part of WhatsApp.

Have there been any better tech layoff packages in the last few years?

This is probably the best, wow.
