Ahh, a trip down memory lane. That's how my passion for programming started, on an HC computer. Those were the days when you could boot up right into BASIC.
I'm surprised no one's mentioned Kik. It's a great platform, and lots of users are switching to it now because of this aquisition. I think lots of people who are privacy conscious will make a move away from WhatsApp/Facebook in the next few months.
One can only wonder how many services or products that provide true value and innovation around the world could have been created with that much money instead...

Pinboard doesn't 'exist to charge me to gather other people's urls' it just gives me an excellent way of keeping track of links that I find useful and want to occasionally have access to (and does that across multiple computers/browsers which is great). Tumbler may be great for a few things, but I have thousands of bookmarks for example and tumblr would suck for that in my case ...
That's fairly cool. Is there an actual pinboard.in API available these days, or did you just hack something together? I haven't checked pinboard.in in a while.
I had built http://data.idleworx.com/DeliStream/ a while ago to pull streaming data from delicio.us. Might be time I updated it to pinboard.in (something similar to your project but more real-time and from all users).
How is this different from the recently released Play framework. And can you give us more details as to why it should be used over SpringMVC or frameworks like Play?
...switched to a mac once for development. Going from windows to mac was quite a hassle, especially when you're trying to get things done quickly right away and each little thing takes you on a 30 minute roadtrip to google to find out how to do things the mac way.
... for one thing I never got over the fact that I can't right click and create a file of a certain extension in the macfinder,and then open it like you can on windows. Why do I have to have an application open before I can create a file using the UI (I know it can't be done from the command line). Small things like that annoyed me enough to remain on windows.
If I'm gonna switch to a linux, might as well be onto a CentOS or Ubuntu box.
I would totally recommend using a 3rd party app like postmarkapp.com or something similar, especially if you're not a linux/vps guru. The amount of money you will pay will far outweigh the time and issues you'll have to deal with (that is if you have actual working products on those domains).
