I recently had a similar discussion with my BIL who owns a construction business. He was saying he was glad he didn't have to worry about AI, because even if it automated everything about the business he'd still own it. I was like not so fast. In that situation access to capitol to pay for compute is going to be how businesses compete. Are you confident you're going to be able to have enough capitol to out compete the other businesses in your industry? Not to mention if AI and robotics get good enough why would I need to hire any construction company, let alone yours?

I'm not sure this is a great example. A formula 1 car is significantly larger and more complex than any go-kart is is 4-5x as fast. In fact almost any car you can purchase will significantly out perform a go-kart.

I don't think just adding features means software must be slower. I would venture to guess Emacs has more features that Word, especially when you factor in plugins, and is significantly faster than Word.

I've seen a lot of heat pump hype lately but it's usually around heating your home, but I live in Florida. Is there any benefit to this for people in warm climates? My understanding is that the cooling part of an AC unit is already a heat pump.
