I agree from a hardware perspective. Once Apple drops software support for the device it makes it less useful online. With Intel based Mac I can install Linux and a 13 year old machine is still fine for a lot of tasks. With Apple silicon, I wonder about what options will exist when you reach this point of no longer having software support from Apple. Asahi project is a nice effort to support this journey, though I do not know if I can expect that to exist long term or with support for future m cpu variants.

I read that to mean you can arm it with a harness that you design informing the user that tests pass. A LLM can leverage this to run tests faster than I would run the same harness myself. You can then have any programmatic logic needed to support that usage sufficient to cover your use case and have a degree of certainty that the product at least passed those tests.

Lima makes this really straightforward and supports vz virtualization. I particularly like that you can run x86 containers through rosetta2 via those Linux VMs with nerdctl. If you want to implement it yourself of course you can, but I appreciate the work from this project so far and have used it for a couple of years.

I find rectangle to be pretty good after needing a replacement for sizeup when development stopped there. My solution is to just ignore the existence of the full screen windows in favor of using the max window size shortcut to fill the current display. Then I can send a window to another display or resize it with shortcuts that are easy enough to get used to and avoid all the transitions that take seconds. The whole full screen experience is so bad otherwise, and this is from someone that is very used to the trackpad and all their gestures.

OpenFaaS is one option for your functions. Knative is pretty good as well for the bulk of your applications without exposing developers to kubernetes directly. Between that and Crossplane I think you have all the pieces needed to move away to a self hosted solution where you are managing either metal or VMs through a hosting provider.

I’m not sure what this looks like outside of the US, but colocation providers offer racks of machines, or to host your machines, while providing access to cheap bandwidth and peering capabilities. It’s absolutely possible to move away from the major cloud providers. However, it will require a degree of investment within your organization to support these deployments no matter which you choose, which could be a new investment compared to using AWS, GCP or Azure.

My heart rate would also go up quickly for the first few months. I would slow down and still find myself at a threshold level effort. After 3-4 months of consistent efforts my heart rate started to come down and I would only reach threshold if really pushing it. It may be that you need to slow down and give your body time to adjust. I also bike and for a long time there was a huge disparity in my on bike performance compared to my running performance. However, over time my running performance has improved a lot and I finally developed an easy gear.

I’m still slow when running, but then my goal is just to be able to run and not get injured. I built from 5k, to 10k and now can complete half marathon races on trails, which is a lot of fun. I’m a big advocate for minimal footwear and building strong feet. We are born to run, but modern footwear is silly.
