What makes you think that this isn't happening?

China ramps up production & shipping to Europe [1] and a quick glance at Google Trends for Germany, UK and France AC install searches are up 5x from last year, and last year was already double or more of the previous years.

Not sure about the rioting part, maybe in some places on earth, but I'd say the burden of additional childcare is obviously an issue. So is just missing those hours of education.

Which is why perhaps classes should not be suspended in most and less extreme cases, but rather adjusted. And good teachers are already doing that. (And long-term, AC has to be a thing.)

> Unions want enforceable workplace thermal limits, based on the wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT)

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jul/08/unions-e...

The submission just doesn't include it, but that seems to be the goal to apply that concept :)

(Slightly) better article: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jul/08/unions-e...

OP's submission seems very UK / TUC centric, also doesn't include something many here are bringing up, that they indeed plan to base it on the wet bulb temperature.

Yes.

Chat Control 2.0 was the big one in those regards.

(Also, LOL @ Skype mention.)

Yes, at least with the 2.0 version (which is the "really bad one"), on-device scanning would be the big issue. But then it also doesn't matter where you're hosted, unless you only allow users with some custom OS that doesn't support it on your server.

Looking at the screenshot, it seems to be the case, with servers at the left like on Discord.

Another alternative that does have it would be https://fluxer.app.

But tbf, both face the same issue: those communities that you want to switch between need to exist. :/ (But of course not an issue if you're the one creating them and you have users who are down to join them.)

Great work! Imo the most promising Discord alternative so far.

But I have a question, and maybe it is answered somewhere and I just couldn't find it, but is there currently a way to move a created community from e.g. the official hosting to self-hosted? I saw the mention about possible federation in the future, which would solve that (kind of), but currently it's not possible, I guess?

Sash windows are just not as common. Seems like they are in the UK somewhat, though numbers I found vary, but overall in Europe they're pretty uncommon.

And yes, there are options for tubes/ducts for the more common window types. Like tilt-and-turn windows, horizontally sliding or all the other kinds of inward or outward opening windows - but most of them are the ducted portable units the original comment was speaking of, which aren't great. There are also some better portable split units, but those are pricier and the install is not as easy. (They're great though.)

Probably because the UK - similar to most of Europe - does not use the US vertically sliding sash window type, does it? The typical "walmart window AC" does just not really exist in (most of) Europe, because the windows for it don't exist, afaik.

Edit: Turns out, sash windows are more commonly found in the UK (compared to other European countries), but still not as common as in the US. So, UK = not as hot (so far), thus still probably not worth it (yet) as a market.

Missed that, thanks! Guess I only searched for [Wallpaper Engine] and [Kaspersky] earlier to check if it's submitted already.

Surprised it's flagged. But then, the Securelist title is a bit clickbaity. It's still among the top 10 "games" on Steam, and like some comments in the other submission mentioned - bit funny that wallpapers as a vector are back / still a thing.

> Does training of new models go into RnD

Pretty likely R&D, but obviously would need to be confirmed by OpenAI.

The original reporting includes this:

> The documents revealed how much OpenAI paid Microsoft for services. In the 2025 calendar year, OpenAI paid Microsoft $10.59 billion for “Research and development” expenses. We believe this most likely refers to the cost of training OpenAI’s models.

Does it apply for every other computation? Purely for the computation part? You can host all kinds of things locally cheaper right now than in the cloud, no? (At least pre memory price hikes.) It does, of course, come with its downsides like availability/reliability, less convenience, scaling options,..., but purely the computing price - I don't see why it wouldn't be cheaper in the future - at least for some use cases.

Where are you seeing a 5x there? I see a 2x over the last 30 years for PC & Console - which are the expensive platforms to develop for. (If you're AA(A).)

> Just as Anthropic isn’t paying AWS SES $10,000,000 to send 1 email update

How much do you think emails cost? That number is just so far off?

But besides that, running SES is also quite a bit cheaper than SOTA ai models with high demand (and comparatively) no competition. And quite a bit more pressure to make money (soon).
