The best part is really that Tesla has only competitive disadvantages. There is really nothing in Tesla that sets them apart. Yeah, they made electric cars popular, but other car manufacturers started to catch up and they have immense advantages, like brand lock-in and a long history of adapting and evolving to customer needs. And they were right not to jump into EV too quickly. It's a pretty unpredictable, developing market. Tesla got a head start, but at the end, they really have nothing going for them.
The stock is gonna crash so hard in a couple of years, I am sure someone will make a movie out of it. I might actually buy a good bunch of options against Tesla, if they reach far enough into the future.
So what would be a non-bullshit job? Animal cafe for lost pets? Handing blankets out to homeless people? Planting trees? How many of these jobs do you think are needed in the world?
I mean, if you are really into this stuff, nobody prevents you from going down this road... If not, then the main concern is this:
Do I like my job? When I wake up, do I think about what I was stuck on last evening and how am I going to tackle this? If you wake up thinking "Oh fuck, I need to work", yeah then that's a bullshit job for sure. But even then, I don't see how more than 1% or 10% of the population could have a job they enjoy. Work needs to be done, most of it is boring, dirty and doesn't earn money.
Until that changes, this is how it will be. No point in crying after it, just think about where you want to position yourself in this system.
Not to mention that this whole discussion brings us back to the question: Who's fault is it that people die? The arms researchers or manufacturers? The army? The people who are mean to us and own resources we want (I mean they could just surrender)?
Are the people building Facebook responsible for the social decline? Or is it the government, not applying proper regulation/laws? Or is it the people using Facebook (nobody is forcing you)? Or are humans just like this and Facebook shows us their true color?
Question: If you are already working with them, why do you have to use Mac Mini's, as opposed to, say, Apple giving you a special version of the OS that runs on "normal" hardware? Hackintoshs are real and there should be no reason for you to use Mac Mini's in the first place. Of course you can't use a Hackintosh, but the existence of this alternative suggests that this is a possible avenue to explore, especially when cooperating with Apple and keeping to a specific hardware that has the drivers or where drivers can be added easily.
It's easy if the game engine you are using would display an in-memory model with deterministic algorithms. I have only briefly worked in the game industry and it's been more than enough for me :D. There were like 4-5 people with "10 years+" experience working on a Candy Crush clone. It was literally riddled with bugs and they used Unity's physics engine to make the stones fall (I mean, it doesn't get any more ridiculous than this).
So I came in, throw it all away and built within 2 days a deterministic, fully tested and testable stone engine that would implement all the effects management wanted to see, some of which would have been close to impossible to implement with Unity's physics engine. The idea is basically to use the smallest time unit you want to support, and then base all algorithms on that. You don't work on milli-seconds, because that is for the engine to fill out. You work on seconds, for CandyCrush at least. Each time step is basically a second. The time in-between is filled out by potentially non-deteministic animations and particle effects and whatnot. But every second, the whole scenery will synchronize with the deterministic engine that drives it all.
While I didn't have the chance to try this on shooters or MMORPGs, I think especially for MMORPGs, this would be a perfect fit. It solves sooo many problems, I would probably need a day listing all the benefits. Are there drawbacks? Probably, I can't think of one right now, except that it goes against anything normal game developers believe in.
I think at some point, the gaming industry forked away from solid software engineering practises.
