It's a daily fight for me. The underlying issue is that everyone is chasing profits and larger sites have multiple teams working on them (dev, seo, marketing, sales, etc). So while devs might be trying to optimize as much as they can, other teams can come and put 3 google analytics-like trackers, affiliate trackers, heatmap analytics, live chats, 3rd party popup services that collects emails, etc. And don't get me started on oversized images with 0 compression... And the worst part, those poorly written affiliate trackers, popups and live chats actually bringing revenue so there is always a push for more.
Getting an accountant is really one of the best decisions you can make especially if you make above average income or income from multiple streams no matter the place you live in.
I've done my taxes for individual business for 8 years myself, but when I've moved abroad I needed help with setting up business as I was unfamiliar with local laws and regulations. I hired a great accountant who helped me with setting up both individual business and limited company. I'm getting schooled on how I should do things to take advantage of different opportunities and tax breaks - things I never though or did before.
Every time something like this happens people seem to be shocked and surprised, but his happens day in day out with every single large entity (companies, government, criminal gangs) as long as they large enough and have enough power to get away with whatever they are doing.
If Apple can make 1-2M/yr from a scam and lawyers tied all loose ends they will have no problem doing that. Worst case will push some press release statement blaming third party and that will be it.
A lot of stuff on amazon/ebay is fake - tools, any kind of parts including automotive and even books (cheap reprints).
All these fakes ends up in brick and mortar stores as well and in some cases you have to pay more than original should costs for poor quality fake without even knowing it.
Amazon / ebay won't move a finger since they get to collect they fees. Removing fake listing is time consuming and even if they will remove it once, those will soon be back in stock again...
This is still good deal compared to platform cut/taxing when publishing content on Envato... and there they give jack sh*t about piracy where on youtube you at least can get republished videos that belong to you taken down and continue receiving revenue...
