I graduated into the 2000 dotcom crash too. I decided to spend the next 2-5 years learning a language (German, not Haskell). Then I ended up on the job market again in the middle of the 2008 crash right out of parental leave. In 2020, in the early pandemic uncertainty, I was on the job market again.

I'm not sure it's a good habit to have: job searching during economic downturns. But it does mean you end up working for companies that actually create things that customers value enough to spend money on. I kind of like that.

The Apache Software Foundation enables 10's of thousands of developers to collaborate on Open Source, in part by providing infrastructure. Till now the only way to request assistance was via email, slack or jira. Now The ASF is catching up with the 1990's and you can get help by phone. Just call: 1-717-7-APACHE (-7-27-2243)

"The service lets you leave messages for specific team members, report issues to the whole team, and access resources ranging from short tutorials to useful information."

Nope. It actually works.

Also March 31st was the 25 anniversary of Doom, so it felt more appropriate than April 1st.

Some companies have international teams. National holiday awareness can be useful in that context.
