Before you do anything else, if you haven't already, I'd advice you to see your physician and explain your situation - at the very least have a basic set of blood tests done. Vitamin B or D deficiencies, for instance, can both adversely affect concentration.

If that's already covered, is taking an extended break a possibility? I was having similar difficulties, and I'm much more productive again after a 2 month absence.

byuu posted an article on his blog (byuu.org) just two days ago. His emulator was called bsnes, not bzsnes, maybe that's the source of confusion? bsnes has now evolved into higan, so that might also be why you can't find it. The higan source is mirrored on gitlab: https://gitlab.com/higan/higan

edit: sorry, wasn't aware of the (april fools) bzsnes release, realise now that I'm probably more confused than you are.

Another excellent C++ book that does this "the right way around" is "A C++ Primer" by Lippman, Lajoie & Moo. The 5th edition is rewritten for C++11. Disclaimer: I've only used the 4th edition.

I'd assume the rules are the same in principle but you would be more likely to be considered autonomous in practice if audited. Also because you're probably providing your own equipment, office etc.

I actually did this for a while - self-employed in NO, only customer in NL. After a while I had more than one customer, making the issue moot :-)

I actually agree with you, but I can see that it's not very obvious from my snarky comment. I've always been a generalist, and if there's one thing I hope I can teach my children it's that it's possible to learn how to do, make and fix just about anything - probably with less effort invested than they'd expect.

I just think it's interesting how much more concerted effort, even over centuries, it takes us to figure out how to do these things on larger scales.

Although it took quite a few hundred years before we started consistently building them to a good enough standard that they didn't collapse after a few years, or decades.

Something I remind myself of when I see the current state of software engineering.

...or cooking their own meals. Or raising their own children. Or commenting on HN.

I don't know about you, but I don't do a very good job of software engineering 100% of my waking time, even if doing so would certainly be more economically efficient than the alternative. 8 hours a day? Sure. 10 hours? Maybe. 12? Probably not, especially for extended periods.

We all make decisions about how we spend our time, both on and off the clock. Personally, I'm perfectly capable of sewing a loose button while watching TV and still consider it downtime. Even if I could easily afford to buy a new shirt instead.

I agree with you that you shouldn't at all costs repair everything or do everything yourself. But I'll happily assign some of my spare time to maintenance tasks, and I think doing so does make economic sense as well as environmental.

We've been using their VPSes for a couple of months and are happy with them so far, even if the management interface is a bit clunky. They also have a good selection of data centers if location/latency is important.
