Technology advances and platform variation were a key part of why games where so exciting. It feels like that period is now over, it is difficult to get excited any of it now. The whole industry just seems stale and corporate. Or maybe I'm just old.
What's really odd is it is now easier than ever to create games but at the same time it feels like we won't see revolutionary games like doom, quake, Goldeneye or half life ever again. These were created by small teams that could inject their personality into them.
My other theory is game creation was previously so hard, it required genius level iq teams to do it so we quite regularly got mind blowingly amazing games. Now we get cut scenes instead.
Thanks. I have been doing this tdd abd it's a big improvement but the code is still pretty awful. Two skills I rely on are Matt pococks grill-me and his tdd. These massively helped, and technically the code generated is correct but it's still hard to follow and bloated.
I'm really struggling to get an agent to write code I'm happy with. It's mostly pretty awful.
I've a fairly simple c# coding style. But simple is proving a bit more difficult to convey than I thought.
I get it to produce code. I then have to spend along time convincing myself it's correct. If I don't I end up embarrassing myself when a coworker reviews it, questions it and it's obvious I don't properly understand it.
This is really starting to screw with me mentally. It's like everyone in the world is saying they can fly by flapping their arms (dark factories). When I try I just stay in the same spot burning a lot of energy.
I think this is going to have unintended consequences if it goes through: funding game development is a very very high risk investment. Adding this type of regulation adds further cost and complication, which makes it an even less attractive investment. Which will result in less monetary and creative risk taken.
Even just open sourcing part of project is expensive. Legal and technical.
I'm using ltsc windows 11 and yes it is much better than one of my other pcs which has pro on it.
However I did use windows 10 ltsc for quite a few years until I hit a dll issue with an old game that turned out to be unresolvable as far as I could tell at the time. So much so I switched to pro (I have a work visual studio subscription so I have access to all versions of windows for free). I can't for the life of me remember what dll or what game it was. But I tend to play older games so probably not something many will hit the same problem.
Can anyone explain to me (a non US citizen) how this won't be found to be unconstitutional (eventually)?. I would think it falls under freedom of expression. And given the attempted classification of encryption as a munition that failed, I don't see how this can possibly last?
