I had a prius and every time I started it up, it would display a big warning prompt that blocked out the rear view camera. So you had to tap ok before backing up. Every time.

My current car shows this once per driver. I always thought toyota engineers were stupid for designing such a system.

I wonder if these things are designed by people who do not drive. So they just implement to spec without thinking through whether the change produces the desired impact.

For me it was 70k. And it wasn’t the breaking. It was the poor engineering that caused the break.

I’d rather not have people in my house. Much prefer someone telepresencing and seeing inside than actual people.

Mainly because I feel it’s an inconvenience for them. Personally, I’d rather telecommute than work in an office.

Seems to suffer from the dalek problem.

My laundry is upstairs and my washer is downstairs.

Also doesn’t seem to be able to start washer/dryer and transfer loads.

It’s funny that it comes with a 30 day warranty.

I love that this is out and one day hope to replace my alexas and whatnot so I can turn on my lights without hearing an ad for amazon prime.

Part of the promise of open access and open science is that the information is free and open to all. Including robots.

I submit to open things because I want my material to be openly available. If I wanted restrictions, I would submit to gated journals.

It’s a useful tool. But its “value” is about the same as a github repo with your pdf.

It doesn’t need much funding or staff and not quite sure why they’re going through all this rigmarole and independence. I almost think they’d be better off like Apache where there ade very few employees.

I finally gave up on bmw last year (after 15 years and 4 models) due to their reliability and cost of repair. I don’t think I’d touch them after spending thousands chasing down coolant repairs due to poor design (plastic parts, high labor cost location to inspect and replace).

No, not at all. As evidenced by the very few people who shoot at cops, even though cops have done illegal stuff forever. And how the few who shoot at cops usually are executed on the spot or have super extreme sentences.

Is it really that expensive to run a TLD? Name servers are notoriously long running on ancient spec servers.

I’m guessing, if designed well, the registration process could run on lightweight infrastructure. Maybe $1-5k total per year, not counting time. So it’s enough for a fun hobby project.

Yes, certainly.

These are separate issues. Cops doing illegal things does not mean it’s appropriate for private citizens to do illegal things.

Compounding the injustice is that probably nothing will happen to the cops, but harsh sentences for the protestors. The solution to this is not shooting cops.
