I really don't think it effects your ability to do that. I've used a split keyboard as my primary keyboard for many years, it has not at all effected my ability to use a standard keyboard. As soon as my hands are on a typical layout the muscle memory kicks in.

Hosting CSAM material? What? I've never seen CSAM on Bluesky, but I have seen it generated by Grok on Twitter.

I've seen plenty of people cheer for murder on Twitter as well, both from the left and right. Cheering for the killing of a protester is no better than cheering for the killing of a federal agent.

On atproto your PDS and the appview you use are not linked. Your data is stored on your PDS and available to any app that handled Bluesky records.

How the addition of user choice doesn't make it better. I agree it's suboptimal, but I feel its still a clear improvement over centralized services. Getting to choose who, if anyone, I trust as my provider is better than having no choice.

NP! And yep, their own appview is a WIP. You can read more about their future plans here if interested: https://northskysocial.com/posts/beginning-phase-2-of-norths...

Theres also front ends that avoid using an appview at all if that sounds preferable to relying on an appview not run by your PDS host: https://tangled.org/whey.party/red-dwarf

Yeah, I think Bluesky should put more effort in getting users to create their own PLC key. It's trivial for someone who knows about it to do it, but of course the average user has no idea what atproto is. They need to explain it in a user-friendly way and have a simple tool to do it.

I'm not aware of what Proton does here, I'll look into that.

You can register a recovery key which allows overriding the signing key. This allows users to move from an adversarial PDS. I do think Bluesky should push for more users to add a recovery key, but I also understand why they haven't.

Moderation tools arent limited to specific PDS's, labels are public. If an account has received many reports it will have been labelled by Bluesky's moderation account and other independent labellers. A PDS can check against these before allowing an account to migrate if they choose to. I'm not sure any are currently doing this, but this is something that can absolutely be improved in current implementations, not an inherent limitation of the architecture.

Atproto gives users choice for where their data is hosted as well as the ability to migrate their data to a new host. Users who dont want to put trust in a provider can host it themselves. How is that not an improvement over being locked in to a single centralized provider?

When was the last time you checked that? That is definitely not currently true and hasnt been for as long as I've used Bluesky.

https://northskysocial.com/ might work for you!

You can have an account on Northsky and use it with Blacksky's appview!

I'm very surprised to hear that. Ive seen some issues with apps using Xwayland, mostly scaling related. I dont recall ever seeing an issue with a game running on Xwayland. Its also how the Steam Deck runs all games.

Their "Introducing Warp" post from 2022 actually doesn't mention AI: https://www.warp.dev/blog/introducing-warp. They introduced Warp AI in 2023: https://www.warp.dev/blog/introducing-warp-ai

I was pretty interested in it when it was just trying to be a modernized terminal. I still think some of the UI ideas are cool.

Yeah that's pretty much my opinion on warp. I really liked some of the ideas used for the actual terminal side of it. The IDE-like prompt and completions, file tree, vertical tabs, etc. I mostly just wanted a terminal that was trying something new UI/UX wise.

Nowadays it just tries to do so much and seems overwhelming. I'll probably still give it a try once it supports Nushell, but I'll need to spend some time disabling a ton of the extra features.

Theres more recent updates on it in a blog post from Bluesky head of protocol: https://dholms.leaflet.pub/3mhj6bcqats2o

What do you mean? This is for CI, whatever the dev machine runs is irrelevant. Either way, the CI uses OCI containers built with Nix, you don't need Nix installed on the host. Also Nix supports MacOS.

People rarely read whole books anymore. I know very few adults in my life who read books, lots of people are put off by reading in school and never give it a try in their adult life.

I think the biggest offender is summer reading assignments. I never knew a single person that actually read their book, and being expected to spend time during break reading for a school assignment definitely creates a negative association.

I loved reading as a child, up until high school. Once I graduated, it took years before I enjoyed it again.

Codeberg doesnt currently support any, but Forgejo, the software it runs on, is implementing support for ActivityPub. Codeberg will likely enable it once support is stable.

The majority of that list is quite old. Have you seen what they're doing now? Not saying every single thing they make anymore is bad, but the average quality is far lower than it used to be.

Ive been wanting to give this a try. I see that it mentions markdown formatting support, but I wonder if it actually supports markdown. I'd love to find a way to integrate it with my Obsidian vault, since I already have all my shell snippets and homelab docs there
