I wonder why it's okay to not give a shit when it's non-white people suffering.
It's the same deal with holocaust. Worse things are going on in North Korea, yet the West seems more concerned about events that happened 70+ years ago. It's like you are automatically an anti-semite for saying what's happening in North Korea are equal if not worse than what Jews have gone through, as if Jews have suffered the most out of human history or something. Of course it's fucking horrid what Jews went through but it's time we start paying more attention to modern day holocausts happening around the world.
It got a lot of attention because of the size of the scam and she came from a place of money which she used to further her goals.
Imagine if this was a non-white male CEO, could you imagine how different public opinions would've been? She got some sort of soft landing because she was white, gender and her family wealth.
Punishing people who willfully concocts false information and disseminates for the purpose of spreading racist/intolerant views are very different than what you've highlighted.
Thinking a group of people is lesser than you because of the arrangement of their skin color pigmentation, and crying freedom of speech is being attacked, is not going to get you a lot of sympathy, especially when you now try to actively shut people up who are calling you out on it.
> freedom of speech means freedom to mislead
sure, but don't get all up and mighty when you get called out and shut down.
So do you support people manipulating and creating fake news but not the people who are trying to prevent it from happening?
Facebook can absolutely kick out people who don't behave on their platform. Playing the freedom of speech card doesn't work when you actively try to oppress other's freedom of speech through tactical manipulation.
Punishing individuals and groups who willfully and knowingly engage in spreading information containing false facts concocted to support their intolerant views is absolutely necessary to protect freedom of speech.
The game has changed. There are people with intolerant and twisted views trying to manipulate the naive herd of sheep who blindly follows whatever people like on Facebook.
Knowing the tactics of people behind fake news, it's good that Facebook is responding accordingly to punish and get rid of bad actors on their platform.
It's once again showing that we can't have pure anarcho decentralization. It would be a haven for bad actors that goes unpunished.
We can absolutely set definition for what is bad and what isn't bad. What is clearly bad is writing fake news about certain group of ethnic group you hate and manipulating others into believing your twisted idiosyncratic views about Jews, Hindus and Moors.
edit: there is some heavy downvote brigading going on here. I've alerted the mods.
I think we will see something like that. Theranos was blatant fraud by an individual who came from a family of money, and felt the need to protect the "fragile, young vulnerable women of tech".
Even as Theranos, there were lot of people defending Holmes, and attacking people who were calling her a scammer.
I definitely don't think we are going to see any of that this time.
> It's just an interesting technological gimmick to deal with some of the superficial difficulties of the process. I guess that's what tech companies are into these days.
This applies incredibly well to current ICO craze.
I wonder why Elon Musk is so obsessed with Mars. Why not allocate the resources that would be spent on covering that massive distance into colonizing a much closer Moon.
Bonus points because we get to look at it from Earth. Imagine being able to capture the attention of every moon gazer on earth. Google Adwords for Moon!
Different strokes for different folks but heavy usage leads to reduced effects due to high tolerance. They recommend waiting up to a month if you take large doses.
You are right in that it didn't reveal the mysteries of the universe, but my own internal universe. I could explain my anxiety, previous bouts of depression logically once I stopped letting my ego tell me whatever it wants to see....but it certainly felt like...transcendence of sort...I realized this is what Buddhism and Tibetans discovered through deep meditation, they were able to see reality and universe as it is. I'm very interested in these things now whereas before I only had appreciation for it.
I still got some reservations about this but it's getting hard to ignore!
To me, the Karma system and reincarnation makes sense...like a divine ledger that always balances to zero...where if you gain or lose Karma, it will offset respectively by the same amount by somebody else. This is how I understood the Buddhists view...which I'm constantly trying to see.
Why am I so interested in Buddhism? Well, if this "religion" can accurately predict that the soul enters the fetus on the 49th day preceding science that revealed the pineal gland responsible for consciousness, DMT production is formed after 49 days, what else do these Tibetan buddhists know?
We have so much inequality and I'm not talking about just wealth....if you believe that we are capable of being born as animals or humans, it explains why everything is the way it is....why some animals end up as dinner while others live freely...
Here's a kid that remembers being murdered in his previous life, it's not just an one off case but these type of stories are found throughout history and today.
I'm not saying everyone on HN should heed everything I wrote but try it out. Take some psilocybin in a safe environment, think through some of the things I've said...which are common repeating themes like the Eye of Providence that so many people see while tripping.
Psilocybin was better than therapy by any measure. It's transformed my life positively.
It's definitely not for everyone! In high dosages it can induce feelings of death. I literally felt like I had died. I had no more ego. I didn't know who I was or where I was. There was only math, logic and reasons. It was as if the veils of reality were lifted to reveal what it was: Math. I saw numbers and formulas everywhere. Then it struck me like a freight train, God IS math, our life is complex system of math, we are living in the body of God.
I've read the pineal gland arises on the 49th day when the baby is inside the womb...how the hell did Tibetan monks know this without science millenias ago? The soul is said to enter the body on the 49th day....it's just...science itself is not enough to explain reality and the universe is what I've come to accept.
I'm hard knock atheist but Psilocybin made me experience spirituality in a highly logical and mathematical manner...it's just frighteningly awesome I am struggling to describe it fully....words can't justify
I realized there was a reason to everything in life. I was here where I was because of reasons which in turn induced actions. I was terribly addicted to substances, locked up in my room.
Just taking Psilocybin a few times induced so much positive changes because it made me experience consciouness on a different world...where I had to physical presence but only my conciousness without ego.
I'm getting goose bumps thinking about the trip. Not so pleasant was seeing eyes, lots of eyes, eyes of providence they call it. I realized those eyes have been watching me all this time and if I didn't turn my life around I would be in hell.
The aftermath of this trip, an overwhelming peace and reduced anxiety, I notice I've become way more social and confident, my posture has improved, I've moved my computer to the living room, I've met new people.
Psilocybin is a drug that will give you answer to all your questions. I reckon religious texts were written while on it.
Basically, what I learned is that Western diet is designed to kill you. There's just no way all that carb and sugar is healthy.
