- Apply Hanlon's razor. Maybe they're going through some stuff.

- Consider how you'd like to be treated; like for real. What if it was you?

- Burning bridges over something like this isn't worth it. Burning bridges over anything, is almost always a bad idea. Seek to mend.

> True freedom would be when you can take yourself out of the picture and still earn income

In this case the "boss" is the cash cow and keeping it alive; also maintaining marketable skills incase the thing dies.

Having too much time and money on your hands can also pose certain social and mental health challenges. It seems everyone has a job whether they like it or not.

IMO a box of 3x5 flashcards is unbeatable.

Are there are any security precautions in using ssh (or telnet, netcat or curl for that matter) to connect to an unknown service like this?

See it from Valve's perspective.

They've had pre-launch source codes leaked by hackers, gameplay ruined by hackers; they probably don't like hackers.

I wouldn't be surprised if they signed up purely out of spite to tarpit and frustrate hackers.

I like Valve's approach. Who is the real bad guy here?

Why should they prioritize people who break their hard work and coerce them into paying for protection?

I might be biased; always wanted to work @ Valve Software since HL1.

Computer science is nowhere near its maturity as a whole. It needs more people with ethics and empathy. We've seen what has happened without that factored in; we're living in it.

Innovation as a goal sounds noble initially, but in my experience it's like chasing the wind. Faithfully doing what is already known to be good seems better for everyone. It might even be the quicker road to innovation.

How do you see it that way?

What if it were mathematicians from all over armed with the same Calculus book hand waving that everyone should ignore the idiosyncrasies of their alma mater or their professor's flavor of finding derivatives? What if the founding documents they wrote all spoke highly of Calculus; Calculus books in every classroom. To me it sounds like people weren't hand waving away God, but setting aside their idiosyncrasies to worship the same Christ.

Hand wavey?

The US was founded by entire colonies of people coming overseas to worship the Christian God freely. Many key founders were deeply religious; believing all forms of government are doomed without the help of the Christian God. The Christian God was a huge factor in government and repeatedly credited as the guiding force and inspiration for the entire endeavor.

Christian prayer and Bible reading was a public school item until the mid 1960s. Church and state separation was entirely redefined around then as well; it didn't mean back then what people think it means now. The ten commandments was in courthouses. There are people still alive today that were led in prayer to the Christian God every single day of public school (and required to read the Bible); they're everywhere.

I apply there once every couple years. I'd be happy to just be the donut guy there. Some day, some day.

> ... it feels like a get rich quick scheme for its founders

Well, Bitcoin itself is a get rich quick scheme for its founders. So are most of its spinoffs.

> When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

Ecclesiastes. Read it. But know that once you read it, you can't un-read it.

Good project idea; the demand is clearly there. I could see myself buying a few.

The same can also be accomplished for $4 with an old iPhone and the AirBeam app by Appologics. Just point an AI capable device to the video feed or auto sync snapshots with the dropbox feature.

The app has some quirks though. Vizy seems like it might be more reliable.

Anyone else think Bitcoin is false hope hidden in layers of impressive technology? Like Q conspiracies targeting smart people. Heh, I was duped by both.
