Author is like "all things that are not specifically directed to me and who I consider fellows are useless". Also he was Not All Gays vice-president, one of the transphobic orgs. Also, transphobic website.
"They can mobilise vast PR machines around ‘trans genocide’. But when gay men are overdosing week in, week out, across Europe’s capitals? Nothing." You can care about multiple things at the same time. And a lot people want trans people to drop dead.
I totally get being concerned about gay men being consumers and victims of the predatory and cruel drug market. Sharing info about how different drugs hurt you, how to do harm reduction and how these drugs markets is only interested to keep you barely alive to keep you as a client, and offering safe places to deal with symptoms and withdrawal actually help.
But I cannot trust the author. He thinks helping trans people is a disgrace by itself.
The author quoting "It’s as if someone broke into your home and stole your child’s mind and personality, leaving their bewildered body behind." That IS your child. He just is not what you wanted. Imagine Nat knew his dad thought of him like that...
I know it's hard to navigate life when you are a disabled person's caregiver, our society is very ableist. But imagine how much harder is to the disabled people themselves...
I hope the author is more careful with Nat now (this is from 2003 after all)
Reading this article and considering its theme, it is so sad I didn't learn about Nat. I only know how he gives life lessons indirectly to his family.
I like the stability and peace of not being homeless. I'm glad I have a place to live. I am lucky I don't need to pay rent, or else I'd have to choose between rent or groceries.
When you pay rent you are dependent of a landlord, who has a lot of power over you when you are vulnerable. Being homeless is a cruel situation, and they know it.
Problem is most people can't afford owning a home nowadays. Power imbalances increase even more...
