I work in IT for a school district in the Bay Area and I love HN for keeping a finger on the heartbeat of what's going on around me! It's one of my virtual portals into a world I feel comfortable within.
I find immersing myself in the environment that has forever changed the course of humanity to be quite fascinating in and of itself.
There's so much more to Silicon Valley than simply getting a Campus tour or checking out the Computer History Museum (not to underwhelm the awesomeness the CHM in ANY way).

Fire up your job-searching abilities and look to giving your time and talent so someone that perhaps might appreciate it, because it sounds like this Fuck of a boss isn't the one to do so. This life is too short to waste on the stupidity of someone else.
Depending on your burn rate, finding someone to continue operations doesn't sound or seem TOO crazy. If you derive enjoyment from it and it's somewhat self sustainable, shutting down seems unnecessary!
