Same, I can barely string two words together in an interactive conversation, and I got my first smartphone at age 20-something. We're just wired differently.

Depending on what kind of document it is, I often resort to extracting its contents with pandoc by converting it into markdown, and then replacing the original description. Makes search work properly too.

They only care about their bottom line and are not doing anything the governments aren't doing. The US government, for example, is happy to trade and deal with our own despite the latter's horrific human rights record. Somehow that subject never comes up in their talks.

They were happy to deal with the CCP for decades and that only started changing when it became clear that China is turning into a major global power that will not simply roll over and do what it's told.

Basically every other country of any international prominence behaves in the same way, I'm not singling out the US.

Yeah, having lived through total internet shutdown during anti-government riots, Linux and F-Droid didn't help us much here. If the infrastructure is down, it doesn't matter what technology you're using to access it, and shutting it down at the first sign of trouble for the establishment is quickly becoming the norm in a lot of places. I have a feeling you (currently relatively free countries) will follow in a decade or two, like you have already done with some things. Our governments borrow the worst ideas from each other.

Not the "entire" community, the places I spent time on years ago were focused exclusively on improved sleep efficiency, if there is such a thing.

I used piracetam for a few months and functioned well on six hours of sleep per day (the norm is 1.5x that). Remembered dreams pretty well too (I very rarely remember them before or after that period).

It also greatly reduced the effects of alcohol intoxication, but that was more of a downside (strip ethanol of its effects on the mind and you get pure poison).

The were no other noticeable effects, and I stopped taking it because dosages were measured in hundreds of milligrams and I was worried about load on the kidneys.

Or the USDA food database that American taxpayers have so graciously given us?

AFAIK, the foundation only does "other stuff", and the development is fully funded by the corporation (i.e. Google), so you can't really sponsor Firefox development at all, except by buying unrelated services like Pocket and the VPN (and who knows where your money goes then).

Unless your brick and mortar checks serial numbers on returned items to protect itself against exchanging a new part for a refurbished or used one. Which I've seen more than once.

I doubt jeffbee lives in a backwater place such as mine, but Intel do not handle RMAs in many countries around the world. There's simply no such thing as RMA here for most brands you're familiar with. If my hypothetical 14900k dies and the seller I bought it from refuses to provide a replacement (for example, by claiming that I overclocked it), I'm fucked. It doesn't really matter if Intel themselves issue replacements or not.

(And no, I am not from and of the sanctioned countries or territories. It's the reality of an unimportant market.)
