Played with one of these at FOSDEM, they look fantastic. If you're after something as good looking and touch-orientated as Android, definitely not your thing, but if you're after something that's truly open for some hacking with, I'd recommend it. If you're not a fan of Java/ObjC or you don't want to fork out £99 to put an application on your own device (wtf apple?) and would rather just write a few quick scripts to get something done, this tablet is for you.
It's slick, it's got some good software and it's damn powerful. Guy next to me at FOSDEM wanted to know what resources it was using, so he simply opened a terminal and typed "top". Can't get simpler than that.
Awesome! I've been looking for a to-do application but there's just nothing out there. I mean, sure, there's Wunderlist, Evernote, Todo.ly, ToDo, ToodleDo and RememberTheMilk but none of them really master the complex task of allowing users to note down things they have to do. If only the iPhone came with this built in. I mean, ok, yeah, there's Apple Reminders.. but that doesn't, er...
If it's written purely in Javascript, how come there's no Android version? More phones nowadays run Android that iOS so you're missing out on a hell of a lot of people's custom, myself included :-)
Anyway - nice idea. I had a very similar idea a few months back (Mobile apps aren't my area, was more of a "It'd be nice if this existed" thing). If you bring out an Android version I'll be sure to give it a go.
Does it feel the same as a native app? I really dislike applications written using phonegap, etc, they usually feel a little rough or not quite right.
I used a Mac for about 6 months and loved it, however as soon as I switched back to using Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 at the time) I forgot about it.
On Linux, I just get stuff done. It might not be as slick as OS X in some regards, but I find it a lot less distracting and much simpler and straight-forward. So unless you specifically need something from OS X, e.g. Photoshop, I'd definitely recommend giving Ubuntu or similar a try :-)
I ended up selling the Mac - annoyingly it didn't retain its value and after 6 months (and no new models coming out) I sold a £1000 iMac for £500. Ah well :-(
But, whilst I value simplicity, I can't help but feel that Gnome has gone a bit too far. Simplifying for the sake of it and to the point where functionality is really being affected.
Can definitely get behind those page-speed comments at the end. Was on a shopping website the other day (large, national site too) and was increasingly frustrated by the 5 second page load. It sounds picky but when you're browsing around, opening up tonnes of tabs, trying to compare products, etc - it really makes you consider going elsewhere. In the end, I probably didn't buy as much as I would have it had been a much faster site.
Whilst C++ can be as fast, or faster, than C - it's usually not because it's "properly coded". Many of the abstractions that C++ provides are what hit performance and it's usually by avoiding these that you can match performance with C.
Best approach would be to support a popular distro - best example being Ubuntu. Support Ubuntu, anyone using other distros can - probably - figure things out for themselves (and would probably work fine on most other distros too).
Have you considered using a cloud platform such as AWS with a load-balancer? Then, if your site is being hammered, you can simply spawn a new instance.
Of course, this is quite a heavy-handed approach. I imagine the best course of action would be to first of all look into tuning Wordpress performance (and that of your database). If you don't need the full power of Wordpress, why not look for something a bit more light-weight (or even code it yourself - it'll be fun!).
I have no experience with getting performance from Wordpress so I can't really comment in that area, however I think that should be your first bet (or consider a platform which does the scaling for you - maybe Automattic's offering?)

That's exactly the reason to customise it yourself rather than using a default "one-size-fits-all" OS like Windows/OSX/Ubuntu.
You spend a weekend configuring your computer, then you automate everything you did and then you never have to do anything again. Or at least that's the goal.
Still, it gives you control over your computer and that's enough for me. OSX telling me that I wasn't allowed to uninstall certain programs (has been a while since I got rid of my Mac but I think iTunes was one of them) - that bothers the hell out of me.
