I deterministically generate all my passwords whenever I need them using a small bash script and a master passphrase.. so 0 stored anywhere, even encrypted.

This is certainly the kind of transparency twitter needs to regain it's appearance of neutrality. It's some well-played PR for the platform at least.

Except for instance something like Dogecoin that is the direct opposite of what you're saying?

This is a great use of crypto that (IMO) ties in directly with these movements. It's sad that 'you can join the simple web revival as long as you hate this thing we all decided to hate' seems to be a message that's pushed.

I'm going to say vim, and I expect to get yelled at by folk who don't use vim, but here's why I call it elegant software:

Vim's entire command model is based on the simple composition of motion and action.

Until you understand this you will never 'get' vim. You may be able to use it, even efficiently, but you will never understand how these two simple concepts when fully understood are a force-multiplier.

Motion indicates a range, of characters or lines, there are motion keys that will get you: to EOL, to EOF, to next matching char, to braces, to function / class blocks, to predefined marks.

An action is something that applies to that range, these can be anything from auto-formatting, changing case, calling out to another process, anything you can imagine.

When you understand this suddenly g=GG, ct(, y$ become: reformat document, cut to next paren and copy till EOL respectively. Does that sound horribly esoteric? that's only because you don't yet understand vim motion composition.

I'm happy to argue that if anyone fully understands this concept they cannot help but agree that vim is at it's heart seriously elegantly designed software.

I've been looking at the Punkt M02 with starry eyes for months now, trying to calculate a path that could make it a reality. Here are my current roadblocks:

2FA (Authy etc) .. Can I find a CLI replacement I can run on my laptop?

Cameras .. portable, compact cameras have not kept up with apple/google from a feature POV, and even the smallest are the size again of carrying a dumbphone.

PS: This may sound weird, but I've heard a lot of folk in western, urban (isolationist) environments explain how the recent Disney/Pixar movie 'Encanto' has moved them deeply because of it's depiction of strong community. If you have not seen it, check it out and see if the lifestyle depicted there in the background to the story calls to you, it might be a good test to see if this is what you're craving or if it's something else.

Modern Western sociology has been an experiment in the deconstruction of community since the industrial revolution, and significantly moreso since the 2nd WW. The 'tribe' has been considered an evil to be eradicated (rather than seeing othering outsiders as a thing to be fixed). The village has been deconstructed with folk pushed into isolated family islands, and in the last 30 years those family islands have been actively broken down by our quest for individualism and personal identity.

This is NOT how most of the world functions outside of the west, strong community bonds have underpinned the fabric of society and what you're experiencing having been shunted off your family island is the missing safety net provided by robust community.

The advice you're going to receive here will be proffered by folk in the same deconstructed system of individualism focusing on you as an individual.. but what you're experiencing is a need to belong to something greater than yourself that cares for your emotional and social needs, AKA: community. There are groups within the west who are fundamentally aware of these problems and strive to create community, communes, religious groups, eco villages.. find groups that are focused on community (and supporting each-other, being a 'tribe') and get involved in whatever they are doing.

Ps: 'untrusting of women' is an alarm bell that makes me think you see women as a class rather than humans, this should be an alarm bell for you too to realise that generalisations about groups of people are always a bad idea.

Wishing you well in your adventure friend.

That's true, and the way people use addresses plays a big part in traceability as well. There's honestly a lot of work to do to bring better practices into the mainstream, for instance HD addresses allow you to generate child addresses for every transaction, yet most folk hold their crypto on an exchange with a single address for all transactions. The industry needs to focus on security-usability and education, and we're starting to see that as new wallet apps are developed with the user (rather than profit motive of exchanges) in mind.

Dogecoin is a 100% opensource project, with a decentralised yet coordinated development effort that's pushing toward these goals, check out the Dogecoin manifesto https://foundation.dogecoin.com/manifesto/ and the 'trailmap' of projects on the same site if you'd like to know why we think we have those properties :)

I'm the Product Lead at the Dogecoin Foundation, that amusing dog-themed crypto project that unlike others remembers the OG vision of crypto: being a useful decentralised currency for folk to spend world over (not just a store of value that magically goes up all the time, or a general purpose distributed compute platform).

A major reason I'm involved in crypto at all is that I believe cryptocurrency is a Pandora's box that Satoshi unleashed on the world. It doesn't matter whether you love or hate crypto, it's not going back in the box, it will (in some form) be what we're using in 10-20 years for everything. This is what you're seeing with the Biden announcement that the US are investigating CBDCs. China already has one, governments the world over are looking at this and rubbing their hands together.

The choice we have now is to decide whether our kids enjoy a decentralised currency in a form that cannot be taken away from them, that fundamentally belongs to the people, or centralised currency that yields 100% control to their government to suspend, redistribute, withhold and track to a degree never before imagined.

There's a mighty big carrot in single-government CBDCs that is going to take a significant, unified effort to resist. The only way that I see of avoiding it is to establish a global, grass-roots financial product that wins bottom-up by being easier, simpler, more convenient.. so that's what we're trying to do.
