Btw, I've now dropped over $1,700+tax on Logic. From my original purchase of 4.0 from EMagic that I ran on Windows, Logic 6 post Apple acquisition, Logic Studio 9, and now Logic Pro X.
I am totally fine with the $200 pricing which is less than the cost of the previous upgrades. Everyone seems to be forgetting that there was a point when Logic cost $999.
Tumblr has actually managed to pull off ads very, very tastefully. With brand and product recognition and well thought out ad-campaigns that feel like a part of Tumblr rather than banner ads.
I am very fortunate to have cashed out at the peak of this bubble. It's a damn shame mtgox is having these problems. I consider it to be a huge vulnerability of the system.

My company moved away from ember-data recently in favor of our own simplified replacement. I like the concept of ember-data but we just ended up fighting with it more than we'd like.
It's a bad idea if you go into ember expecting it to be a solution to all of the javascript development hurdles. You should expect to fight the framework from time to time. You should expect a learning curve.
The solution is to be a patient developer, become familiar with the ember code base and it's concepts, keep up to date on the community happenings.
We are more than ecstatic about the results of our nearly complete product and I am positive having used any other framework would have made our development more difficult, and without a framework would have taken multitudes longer.
Sure. I guess I forgot to also make the point that the best way to write tests is to do it as you write the code you are testing. Otherwise the tasks becomes somewhat tedious and intolerable.
I've been mixing in TDD and BDD for the last 1.5 years of my 11 year coding career. I can't think of any reason not to test except for laziness and someone's unwillingness to truly use their brain to evaluate it's value.
Contrary to this article, one great reason is that TDD/BDD allows me to make refactors and major changes and know whether or not I broke something. I find it passe to have the opinion of this article.
A perfect example for TDD/BDD is a complex REST API with dozen of end-points and refactoring a piece of the authentication system. How do I know if I broke something or introduced a bug?
My experience is that most developers do not test and this is exactly the kind of way complex bugs get introduced. You actually make the job more difficult on yourself because instead of knowing YOU broke something, a bug gets introduced and you spend more time tracing the cause. I have worked at many places that have this obnoxious cycle of deploying, breaking, deploying, breaking.
It is irritating to see articles like this pop up because it's not like it's a school of thought or a religion. It's a purposeful tool that can and will save you time and effort and probably impose a few good design practices along the way. I'm not saying shoot for 100% coverage, fuck, I'm happy just knowing a few complex pieces are working. And I don't always think it's a good idea to design API's from the tests, especially when you are experimenting and researching.
How about a synthesizer? I can immediately think of many useful ways to use a synthesizer with this controller. For example, touch pressure to filter cut-off or LFO amount. Finger vibrato to OSC pitch, OSC detune, filter, and so on.
I think the video does a reasonable job showing how it can be used creatively. I get the point you're trying to make about harmony between the input device and sound source. However, I would argue in modern days with really incredible software synthesizers both software and hardware (I own one of these: http://www.studioelectronics.com/products/synths/omega8/) the inverse is more common.
Input devices do a poor job of exposing the features of the instruments.
This is the first device I've seen that seems to actually care about the performability and feel without making you look like a douchebag. That's what makes it interesting to me.

I take psychedelics on a regular basis. Usually a couple of times a month. Although I've done several hundred micrograms (there is really no way of knowing) of LSD at once, I also really enjoy experimenting with smaller doses and casually micro-dosing on work days.
I happen to be a software engineer and try to apply my knowledge of "machines" to the psychedelic experience. While I don't believe in anything supernatural, I do think that there might be a chance that psychedelics, especially LSD, help your consciousness tap into some deeper abstractions of the human mind, maybe even the universe.
Let me explain that insane claim as best I can:
There is a great book on psychology that was published recently called: Thinking Fast and Slow. In summary, it goes into great detail about two systems of the human mind. System 1, the immediate reaction system, and system 2 which is responsible for computing and solving problems.
When your brain is in system 2 mode (solve 17 x 54 in your head) your heart rate increases, your pupils dilate, and your brain starts consuming glucose. It's doing work. System 1 is the trained mind that recognizes facial gestures and stuff infinitely more complex than a simple math equation. It reacts to danger before you are consciously aware of danger.
I would speculate that LSD turns on System 2 where normally my System 1 brain would give me an immediate response. Your mind starts processing information differently. This cascades into an incredible effect on your emotional awareness, creativity, introspection, insights, and behaviors both physical and cognitive.
I wonder if these extreme doses of LSD eliminate your minds ability to process normal sensory input. What you're left with are low level systems. You're self-awareness is turned off, but you are left with cognitive factories still churning away.
Imagine something sad that happened to you once. Now imagine the visual component is gone, the memory of language gone. You're left with the actual chemical response of the memory. Now do the inverse for something positive. That's what ego-loss is like. You're swimming in a sea of emotions as your brain randomly wanders off into different states, sometimes many at once, sometimes you get stuck in one. Sometimes that state is incredible panic, sometimes you're crying-laughing for 10 minutes straight. This is a common experience I've had on measly 300-500ug doses.
As for the universe claim, as far fetched as it sounds, maybe some of these systems are abstractions of the universal systems. What we are perceiving in these insane states are also little clues into how the universe organizes itself and a peek at something pre-selfawareness.
That last paragraph is all bull-shit heresy but even with my lighter doses I've had remarkable insights. Things that have changed my life in incredible ways. It's like a Pi of molecules or some shit.
I'm quite ecstatic about this. I invested in bitcoin early on when it was around $1-3 a coin. I try to buy goods with it at legitimate places like bitcoinstore when it's up, and buy more when it's down. I just, you know, actually believe it's a great alternative and want to see it succeed.
I do have concerns about it scaling to handle massive amounts of transactions, and what will happen with transaction fees and mining rigs as the mining reward is reduced, but it's step in the right direction for currencies.
While the idea is novel, domains are virtual real estate. I don't think it's in anyone's best interest to retire domains/addresses. There are many more sane ways to make all of the content easily accessible indefinitely.
Without commenting on your product I'd like to be frank about why this mentality can be unhealthy.
Motivation is great, but sometimes the fuel that motivates you isn't always healthy. The way that your article reads comes off as having a point to prove because you were rejected.
Analyze the psychology of that for a second. You're indirectly implying that you will make decisions because of rejection. Your problem solving and decision making will now gravitate towards whatever bias that "chip on your shoulder" created.
This may seem obvious, and you may be thinking you're impervious to such a fallacy, but let me point out a few warning signs in your article.

Do investors really look for this? These statements come off like a confirmation bias.

Can you quantify why?
I've been in analogous situations a few times in my past and observed it in many colleagues. I've rarely seen healthy work come out of it.
In summary, while there is room for personal bias and creative preference when building a startup, you shouldn't take your motivational fuel lightly. It's really easy to let the ego get in the way of doing what's right for your company.
