This SEC crackdown had to happen sooner or later, after all the crypto listings they have done with several suspicious coins that they had already invested in with other VCs pumping and dumping on retail. [0] [1] [2] The best part is, the VCs know it was a scam as I already said.

This scam was expected to be investigated by the regulators and was unsurprising that they are now targeting Coinbase. They are now in a similar situation with Ripple Labs who got sued by the SEC over whether if XRP is an unregistered security or not.

They are coming very late, and that's surprising, they were super reactive during the Ripple(XRP) drama

Coinbase is not a big exchange so that might explain why

SEC needs help from congress. We need new crystal clear laws and regulation for the crypto industry to prevent scams and ponzi schemes.

Also, it turns out that the libertarian dream of no regulation and laws is the status quo in crypto.
