Would you be willing to speak more about your disability, evaluations, and your day-to-day? I’d also be curious as to your evaluations, and whether or not you’ve appealed via the ADA?

Really enjoyed this.

One issue: sharing my results was not great. Pasting in iMessage gave the result text and the image; pasting in discord only gave the text; pasting in telegram only gave the image.

Not sure if this is even your fault, but it doesn’t have as nice of an experience there as Wordle (which I assume you’re trying to emulate).

How do you account for confounding variables? For example, unseen or alternative methods of communication e.g. body language like bobbing, or clicking their beaks? Or even the tonality of the squawking? Whistling?

It seems like you might still get meaningful results for some of your questions, but also that the behavior of the birds could be far more complex than foreseen, and maybe even missed entirely.

I’m not familiar with the “Unix Fundamentals” class (got a link?) but when I have interns I make the “missing semester”[1] course part of their onboarding. I find it’s a nice balance of pragmatism and the classroom structure they are already familiar with.

I will also note that I think skills like this end up being way more valuable to me as a mentor than hard CS knowledge.

If you tap the page options (the ‘Aa’ icon in the url bar) you can zoom the page out which will bring everything into view.

Would also be interested in this topic. I’ve been a dev for some years now but I have always wanted to lean more into the scientific/research side of things and no idea what that path looks like or how to get there. Ultimately I’d like to end up at a lab of some sort or in a “hybrid” area like space.

So far the only ideas I’ve come across are the standard “do some related project for resume purposes and then apply to anywhere/everywhere until it works” or “go back to school for a 2nd/more relevant degree and try again”

Neither of which is particularly practical for me, but perhaps this is the way.

You may enjoy the audiobook versions of the Dirk Gently series, which are fully scripted and voice acted like a radio play. It was a really fun experience, and very well acted!

Ctrl-a and ctrl-e will go to the beginning and end of a line respectively in most places on Mac. There are many of the “standard” Linux/unix keybinds available for most apps.

What are the recommended alternatives?

If you're on Mac, there's a nifty free app for keeping your computer from sleeping called Amphetamine, which can move your mouse for you at a set interval.

It's pretty ridiculous there's no setting in Teams to disable that, and I really hope no one is monitoring those status icons so closely.

SoundHound would fit the bill.
